The Gruden-to-Tennessee speculation has been fueled by the 54-year-old's start at the school, and the fact that his wife, Cindy, was previously a cheerleader there. However, Football Scoop, a website that tracks coaching moves in college football, reported Tuesday that Gruden "has no interest in being the next head coach at Tennessee."

Radio host Paul Finebaum, who works for ESPN's SEC Network, echoed that claim in the final hour of his own show Tuesday.

"I was on SportsCenter at noon, or whatever time it was, and they asked me about Jon Gruden," Finebaum said. "I talked about how everybody in Tennessee wanted Jon Gruden, and within an hour we had heard from someone close to Jon Gruden — I won't identify the person — and that person communicated to me that Jon wanted me to know that he is not going to Tennessee."

This I agree with mostly unless they pay him 10m+ a year and could end up being one of the worst hires ever.

His name will carry a lot of weight with recruits and bring some excitement back to KVille but they would be better served by paying him less with bonuses tagged on until he can prove he can coach at the collegiate level.

Agreed. He def needs to hire the right cords. Maybe an asst head coach to kind of get him in the loop of what the College game and recruiting is. Not an easy thing to just jump right into. Tons and tons of rules.

Literally everyone associated with UT slammed that article and said whoever wrote it was looking for clicks and had no idea what they were talking about

Nick Saban said directly that he wouldn't coach at Alabama and he was there a few days later. Now you expect me to believe an unnamed source on the Finebaum show? Get better material

Guess that settles that then. I really hope UT hires Gruden. He's never been a HC, or a coordinator, in CFB. The learning curve would be very steep and, but the time he might be able to enjoy any success, Vol fan's bubble would have long since burst. Be like a false second-coming of Jesus and finally finding out it was only Woody Allen in disguise.
