when left with a full group of players from the fired coach. Why did he leave Ark?
He is a capable coach, but a very uneven recruiter. If he could step aside, and allow someone to come in and take over management of his recruiting, he could do a pretty good job more consistantly.
He runs on emotion, and his teams are a reflection of his mindset. If they get hot(Ole Miss this yr,) watch out. He is also prone to having cold streaks and losses in bunches.

Nutt is a great fit for Ole Miss, I am glad he is there. Both Nutt and Arkansas benefited by separating ways.
I will ask the Nutt supporters a few questions:
If Nutt had stayed at Arkansas, what would his record have been this year?
What talent did Nutt leave at Arkansas?
What was Nutt's SEC record at Arkansas?
What is Nutt's record against the football powerhouse known as Vanderbilt?
If Nutt does do more with less (not sure about that statement), whose fault is it that he does not have better recruits?
Would you really want Nutt as your coach? Be honest with this question.

I always believed Nutt was a good coach, but in the wrong program at Arkansas. When he left, I was hoping he would leave the SEC. OM will be another team to take very seriously now.

I will get flamed for this from other AR fans, but if the Razorbacks were playing Texas, there is not a better coach to get you ready for that game.
Unfortunately, we did not play Texas every game.
I bet he will have Ole Miss up for LSU every year since Ole Miss considers LSU it's primary rival (if that is even true).

Coach Nutt has always been too much of a "rah rah" guy for my tastes, but having said that I think he was most definitely the right hire at the right time at OM, considering the depression that Yaw Yaw left the Program in.
OM deserves congrats on a great season , let's see what the future brings...

Without a doubt. His players have bought in to his program and he will have them up for everybody now.

I've been a Hog fan for a long time and I've got lots of friends up here in NW La. who follow the Hogs.
Nutt is indeed a great coach in terms of W-L given the quality of players and in terms of pre-game and in-game strategies.
His big negative is that he is not a high character guy. He lies to recruits, he lies to players, he lies to the press, etc. Some Hog fans wanted him out because they stupidly believe the Hogs should be a top 20 team every year. Unrealistic because Ark is not a good HS football state.
More Hog fans wanted him out because they just got sick of him on a personal level.
I've always been a Nutt supporter. You pay the guy to win games not to be a role model for your children. Of course, the ideal position is to have both a great coach and a great person. But every school wants that.

Maybe Petrino can not get it done maybe he can but the FACT that he is a lot better coach than HDN should not be in question.
Whatever. 2 SECCG appearances in his tenure for a school like Arky, you should have built a statue for HDN. If that Fish doesn't fumble that punt @ the 2 yard line against Florida 2 years ago, yall would probably be in the Sugar Bowl - with Dick as your QB.
Can you imagine the Sophomore version of Casey Dick being a Sugar Bowl QB? Sounds like good coaching to me.
All of this HDN is a "lazy recruiter" BS is funny, considering that Fayetteville is in the middle of nowhere and that the state of Arkansas isn't exactly a hotbed of talented players. His recruiting will be better at Ole Miss than it ever was @ Upig probably.

Why is petrino recruiting better than nutt ever did at arkansas?

McFadden and Jones had more all purpose yards than any duo in the history of the game. They were blocked by NFL rookie "surprise" standout, Peyton Hillis, and they had holes created by Rimington Award winner, Jonathon Luigs.
What was Nutt's record in the SEC during their tenure? .500
With the most successful running back duo in the history of the game he went .500. Coincidently, that was also Nutt's 10 year SEC record at Arkansas. Before leaving Arkansas, he was the longest tenured coach in the nation to not go to a BCS Bowl.
Nutt lives off emotion. He can pour his soul into Texas or LSU but can't beat Vandy or maintain a successful program. He is text book "mediocre". Period. End of story.
Arkansas, according to Forbes, is the #15 most valuable football program in the nation. Arkansas has facilities, money, and fan support that is above most of its peers. 10 years of ho-hum football was a reflection of leadership, nothing else. "Lil ole'" Arkansas has more going for it than most football programs and Petrino's #15 class after a 5 win season points to a coach that can properly utilize the programs positives,
Yeah, Nutt deserves a lot of "props".
His recruiting classes will always be in the middle of the pack, which is where his teams end up.

I agree. Arky fans had enough of HDN. OM needed a coach like HDN because O was the worst hire in SEC history, minus an above average recruiting effort. But if Petrino stays at Arky for 10 years (

Probably around the same. I don't see how anyone could reasonably speculate any differently...
quote:
What talent did Nutt leave at Arkansas?
Average to slightly-below average SEC talent. It would've been a rebuilding year at Arky regardless of who the coach was last year.
quote:
What was Nutt's SEC record at Arkansas?
42–38–0. Above average, but you have to factor in 2 appearances to the SECCG. The bowl record wasn't great, but that doesn't negate the ATL appearances. Good enough for Arky for damn sure.
quote:
What is Nutt's record against the football powerhouse known as Vanderbilt?
Probably 10-0. Vandy sucks. Ole Miss would've killed for a 10-0 record against Vandy in the last 10 years.
quote:

His recruiting has been average. Arky's location and local high school talent hurts them compared to other SEC schools. He's not a great recruiter, but not a bad one either. They have the All-Americans (Andrews, Felton, McFadden, Jones, Luigs, Parker, Ugoh, Kennedy, Lucas) and 1st round draft picks to back it up.

Ask Ole Miss fans.
