It would be unprecedented for a team like 2018 LSU to win the NC

According to the Football Outsiders FEI rating system, there has never been a team ranked lower than 12th in Offensive FEI to win a NC over the past 12 seasons. LSU is currently ranked 35th in Offensive FEI. There has only been one team ranked outside the top 10 in Defensive FEI to win a NC. That was 2014 Ohio State who was ranked 16th in Defensive FEI. LSU is ranked 18th in Defensive FEI. However, that Ohio State team had a far better offense ranking 4th in Offensive FEI.
And let me give you a similar team to 2018 LSU based on the FEI system. Miami was ranked 36th in offensive FEI and 14th in defensive FEI last year. They won their first 10 games and went up to as high as #2 in the polls. Than they came crashing back down to earth losing their last three games of the season.
Of course it's still only halfway through the season. Things can change. But LSU is going to have improve substantially on both sides of the ball to have any shot at winning it all regardless of the outcome in two weeks.
