UGA has a student body full of kids from N Atlanta private schools.
This is complete bullshite. UGA rarely chooses prospective students from private schools regardless of how qualified they are. Prospective students from public school, especially public schools in rural communities, are far more likely to be accepted.

the top kids in the top private schools in the metro arent flocking to UGA

It's the truth. Georgia takes the best. The others go elsewhere.
Poor AU. Bama is top dog in the state of Alabama and always will be. I imagine any students AU gets from the state of Ga tried to get into Bama first. Can't blame them. Bama is better in every way

They just weren't smart or well rounded enough to get into UGA
This could not be further from the truth.
Of course it is.Its MUCH harder for kids from the
Northern 'burbs to get into UGA than any other part of
the state or metro area.
Have several UGA friends who live in those areas and had to send their kids elsewhere (mostly Auburn)Not to
say the kids weren't smart it's just that UGA admissions has quotas for white kids from East Cobb,N Fulton,Gwinnett and private Atl and Dekalb schools.

They have been - for several years now. And folks in S Ga are unhappy. They are unhappy that so many of their kids are being passed up despite being good students. But, UGA only has so many places and everyone can't come. Only the best. When a kid is accepted into UGA he or she knows that they achieved something very special. Many students who previously would have attended the ivy Leahue schools have opted to spend their college days in Athens. One of my best friend's son is one.

Since when?Kids from Westminster,Lovett,Marist,St Pius,
aren't going to UGA?
I knew quite a few when I was there and some of their kids are now attending.

Not to say the kids weren't smart it's just that UGA admissions has quotas
This proves my point exactly. The academic standing of applicants is only a small fraction of what determines whether or not they are accepted. The various quotas set by UGA admissions are far more influential in regards to which prospective students are accepted.

How long since you've been to Athens? The town is full of N ATLANTA kids. I have no problem with quotas but it sure hasn't made a difference yet. Still UGA wants the brightest and if they are from the Pace Academy's, etc they should continue to admit them. It's a problem but a good one to have.

The ONLY way these kids get in is after the quota for N
metro kids is filled. It is easier for em to get in if all things being equal compared to N. Metro kids because there are so few quality students in rural Georgia.

This incorrect regardless of how you measure it. Auburn is consistently rated far higher by every university ranking service (Princeton Review, USA Today, Forbes, etc.), the average salary for Auburn graduates is higher than that UAT of graduates, and the average test scores/GPA of admitted applicants to Auburn are far higher than UAT.

It absolutely is...that's why it's harder for many other kids from the area to get in.Just many more quality students than any other part of the state.

Not really...very few if any kids from Westminster or Lovett are going to AU although did know several Marist kids who went.

I know a valedictorian from Marist who got his undergrad at UGA.
He's now a medical director at a hospital in San Fran.
He was a Bama legacy. :)

It's gonna surprise you, GlossuRabban, but all Georgia people aren't poor.
If you think that not having $48k/year for a state school education makes you "poor", then you've got a really fricked-up sense of reality.

You obviously know nothing about U of Ga admissions. You haven't a clue but that doesn't stop you from spewing inaccurate "facts". Stick to AU and their obvious shortcomings. At least they have a legit vet school. After the season ending bomb that AU football and basketball became, at least there is something to brag about there
Posted on 4/23/18 at 1:34 pm to GlossuRabban
Never said that. You were the one who implied that Ga students couldn't afford out of state tuition at back up schools. Not me.

There are many like him. Some who chose UGA over the Ivies. I had a lot of issues with UGAs former president but he raised the academic profile of Georgia. I give him credit for that.
