i don't even care if we won it in 1964 or not. tradition and history matters but there's high school teams with more ability than some of those powerhouse squads from the 40s and 50s.

I wasn't talking to you specifically. You didn't really do any bashing. Your post just triggered a thought is all

Saw the title and just thought it was another Aub lamenting their dreary lot in life...and then I remembered their sureptitious MNC last season and saw the Pig affiliation...
My bad.
My bad.

You better give us 1966 then.

Looks like it's legit.

Like I said, the 1964 AP trophy is in the Bryant Museum, along with our other 7 poll titles.

You didn't win 26 titles in football, let alone women's ironboarding. Take that number and divide it in half.

Bragging about fake titles is what results in the bashing. If you had 13 legitimate titles/co-championships on there, the topic would be dead.

But that didn't happen, bama won it in 1964
They won a co-championship. Which is why on the best and most detailed source for college football history (CFDW) Arkansas and Alabama are listed as the champion. New topic.

Having a trophy in a museum won't change how every historical football source views 1964.

Just love some of these arkie posters...I live up here with them and they truly do believe they have a '64 title. Well babies, let me take you back. First all responders have it correct that you are not recognized by anyone other than wikileaks! Second, and most important, you were undefeated in '64 (Bama awarded title), then won cotton bowl, then undefeated in '65...let's see that's 21 straight wins (no SEC opponent)...then what happens, why you get to play LSU in the '66 Cotton Bowl and get your arse wiped 14-7 by the Tigers!!!

Arky's '64 championship is at least more legit than AU's '10 championship.

You may have something there, but it's not a for sure yet. My comments stand as fact and Arkie is and always will be a wannabee!

Thats' the stupidest argument I've ever seen. Two straight undefeated seasons, and lost the Cotton Bowl in 66...that's your arguement?

Lets start over. Below you may find a source superior to Wikileaks, though I hear it's all the rage these days, especially among people named larry.

So you provide links to previous info supplied, thanks again. You know I was there and the only thing that truly mattered was the AP poll...and yes many times then as now it was slanted to Big 10, Pac 8 (at that time), ND, et.al. But most folks, after time, accepted the world as it was and that "Did Not" have arkie as the title winner...whether it is fair or unfair.
I could make the case for two of LSU's seasons during the 60's and 70's, but it's a mute argument. You must learn to go with the flow and learn to appreciate what we have now with the BCS...it's a great improvement.
PS: In that day we, LSU fans, were sick of the constant Arkie and Texas bs that we heard every year. So in '66 we took care of arkie and in the same time era took care of Texas...so there you go. LSU was better than both of 'em in their greatest era!

if you get 66 you also have to give back that one in the 70s when you lost at home to USC and still edged them out in one of the polls

That's great, we're talking about now. Not back then.

That's no longer and is not currently the case. That's the point.

It may be a moot argument, but not because it's a real debate. On CFDW, I see no mention of any national titles in those two decades. An SEC Co-Title and SEC Championship are both on there. The situation isn't similar.

I agree.

You were better than both once in a bowl game. You didn't have the distinction of winning the most games of the decade. Though there's no doubt LSU had solid teams in the 60's.

You do know that CFDW, as you say "best and most detailed source for college football history" shows that LSU has a 34-20-2 SEC record versus Arkanas...your "best site" hasnt figured out that teams switch conferences!!!
