Currie didn't hire him and I don't see why he wouldn't want to get his own guy, especially with VOLS rolling in the cash now.

Hope this is how it goes. Was Dooley's demise as Hart didnt support him in any way his last year. Currie needs to at least publicly support Jones in some way as I think Hart cost UT at least a game in Dooley's last year by not showing support. Compared to USC's AD publicly defending Kiffin, and there was no love lost there.

Currie just better make sure he has a really good hire in his pocket if he pulls the trigger. UT just needs to find that right coach at the end of sabans reign to take over.

Wonder if jones went to sexton to make sure he doesnt double dip with his other clients to UT to replace him. Ha.

The first 2 hires (Kiffin and Dooley) were disasters and contributed to the worst period of football in UT history.

This all on UT with Kiffins help. Kiffin leaving the way he did let all the crap the UT old boys club had been keeping under wraps ooze out. Could have been worse, and Dooley at least stablized it for the 3 seasons. Even when he had to deal with the ncaa, locker room on their 3rd coach, amongst other stuff. WHO knows what the ncaa would have come up with if Dooley wouldnt had been hired. Lawyer, son of legendary sec coach, and AD experience was a mix that couldnt have been found anywhere else with the ncaa leasing an apt in knoxville. Settling with a loss of a couple scholarships for a couple of yrs is pretty much it. He had 23 scholarships to work with, and jones had 30ish for a couple yrs. He better have the program on better ground when he gets paid millions more, and didnt have to deal with a fraction of the shite that Dooley did.

Some of yall really need to go back, and compare what each coach walked into.

Dooley stabilized the program in the 5-6 win range, and making $1.9mil a year. Jones has kept it in the 7-9 win range, and making $4mil a year.

I sure hope so. If they give him another pass I'm afraid Vols&Shaft is going to go on a shooting spree.

It depends. Some of their posters here said they only kept him because he beat UF.

It's a make or break year for make or break threads about Butch, for sure.

Agree. Threads about Lile should be about what he says, not what he does.

Maybe, but the East is down. By next year he will have 3 great recruiting classes in his system including a Jr QB. If he hasn't won the East by then the recruiting is going to start to slip I would suspect. Once that starts dwindling it's going to be very hard to build an elite team. And let's be honest. Elite means BAMA ELITE. If you're gonna have a shot at beating them you MUST have not just elite players across the board, but elite back ups. That's just truth, and I admire Saban for building that.

If he goes 7-5 he gets to stay. 6-6 and he's gone. You have to think logistically. This year he will be breaking in a new QB and his upcoming recruiting class is killing it. The RBs will also be relatively new and getting experience. It's easy to see a 7-5 or 8-4 team ending the season thinking the future is bright. Teams go through cycles like this a lot.

I hope Kirby Smart does a great job for us, but if he's not made it to the SECCG by his third year, he will need to go.

Yeah, I don't see that happening. Too many people invested too much in Kirby getting that job. Plus, posters on tRant will bitch and moan, but UGA fans as a whole have already shown their tolerance for mediocrity under Richt, and Kirby's an alum to boot.

He'll get 5 years, even if he's only winning 8.

I even think if we go 7-5 he'll be okay (but his seat will be blistering going into next season)

As a fan of an opposing team I hope you are correct. I also hope aTm keeps their clown for 10 more years.

If Butch underwhelms and is let go, I expect Bob Stoops to get some calls. I think he'd like the idea of playing little Nicky and brother Mark every year, plus he'd relish the idea of being a top SEC contender.

Just my gut feeling, if Butch doesn't win the SEC East this year he is done.

Plus, he's a loud-mouthed bitch so he'd fit right in.
