Well LSU was the first SEC team lose in a BCS title game....thanks for fricking the streak up.

I hate the BCS. It's a broken system. I want to see a big, NFL-style playoff.

I'm done with this argument...its silly, I don't know if this is the greatest "dynasty" or whatever...but one things for sure...it's a damn good run and it's been super fun to be part of.

let's go totally nuts and have a post season featuring a group stage then a knockout-round and best of 3 final.

Definitely.....and I don't really care. I don't think 2 losses should prevent a team from playing for a national championship.
It won't in the future...
IMO, it won't take long for the 4 team playoff to open up to 8 teams....6 autobids, 2 at-large teams

....but this brings me to Notre Dame...who obviously would never play in one ever again according to your stipulations.
The traditional purpose of a conference (besides the business side) is the provide some sense of point of reference (common opponents) and gauge since a given team only plays about 10% of teams in the field.
Conferences have served effectively as a regional or super regional in baseball. The issue is not so much the championship, but allowing teams multiple opportunities when there is so much disparity. Team A and Team B may be the best, but why should Team A get multiple shots at Team B when Team C or D are qualified as well?
Notre Dame at least plays 8-9 BCS conference teams and no championship game. There is no requirement that conferences must have them. The Big 12 doesn't, the Pac/Big 10 didn't until recently. Fine. I'd have a big issue if they went 11-1 with a loss to an undefeated USC/Stanford/Michigan and got a rematch. That's a better example.

Uhhhh.........2007 LSU was a great team. LSU schedule in 2007 was 10 times what Bama played in 2011. Sidenote; 2007 LSU also won the SEC outright.
This thread is just so awesome.

good point
I don't think the future playoff will ever be conference champ only...ND would throw a fit

Every other sport that matters uses a playoff.

Why? Compare the schedules. 2011 Bama had a weak schedule. 2007 LSU's was much stronger. There's no debate about that, unless you're an Alabama fan. And if you're an Alabama fan, playing LSU and the SEC east champion every year counts as a great schedule.

I'm shocked an LSU fan brings up scheduling...... :beatdeadhorse:

So schedules don't matter? Tell that to Boise State, TCU or Cinci.

It just seems so convenient that LSU becomes the defender of fairness after they benefited from playing weak florida teams under zook while Fulmer was still going to Atlanta.
Oh wait... It could just be that selfish LSU fans are trying to turn a schedule into a mountain because losing hurts people's feelings.

Schedules do matter, but you guys act like it's the only factor in determining a team worthy of something....it's silly.

Fairness does not exist. Balance can be attempted. Correct me if I'm wrong, but LSU played Florida through Spurrier, Zook, Meyer, and Muschamp, correct? It became an issue AFTER expansion when a dead fish like UT or a perennial contender like UF is now 50% of a teams cross divisional schedule and the league arbitrarily assigns these game a year prior. Before there was an actual rotation and system that was followed.

Says a fan base who whined for a rematch because they had more yards and has a slate of teams with a combined 1-15 record.

it does not matter what Bama fans think about the 11 NC, it matters what the BCS folks think and they gave it to Bama for winning the last game of the year in dominating fashion. RTR
