While there was definite improvement compared to the low point of 2000, the SEC Champ (LSU) had a 5-3 regular season SEC record. Florida was the highest rated team, and they finished #3.
Thank you UT. I see no reason UF wouldn't of railed us again.

oh and btw, Auburn went undefeated in 2004 and was unfairly denied a shot.
They got screwed, but I don't think you can say unfairly denied. USC, who was unfairly denied the prior year, and OU were both undefeated too.
I think that the fact that 'SC was stripped of the '04 title for cheating has some bearing on the way folks feel.

Nope, nope, nope.

Auburn was a victim of the system at that time. Auburn did not deserve to get left out anymore than Oklahoma or USC would have had they been left out. It was going to suck for any of those 3.
I think at the time, the general consensus among most fans was that USC was the strongest team in the land. Would Auburn have defeated them? Who knows. I think most fans would have said, "no" at the time, but then after the SEC won National Titles every season between 2006 and 2012, history now looks back at that Auburn team and says, "yeah they probably had a real shot."
Interestingly enough, of the seven SEC teams to win consecutive National Titles from '06 to '12, only two finished the season unbeaten (Alabama in '09 and Auburn in '10). LSU in '07 even had two regular season losses. When you think about all that, unbeaten Auburn in '04 even looks more shafted.
Either way, the system back then just sucked big time. I can't believe after that fiasco, it took another 10 years before they did the right thing and made it a 4-team playoff.

Which years?
Georgia is the only one with a Title in the '80s.
Auburn got screwed in 1983.
I can't think of any seasons in the '80s in which Alabama or Tennessee would have had an argument to be National Champs.

I'm not, the year prior, they made the BCS worse, by getting rid of SOS. All because USC got screwed, and not LSU.
Eta: wouldn't of happened, if they had done the right thing, and required a conference title, after Nebraska got their shite kicked in, by Miami.

Truthfully in 2004 the strongest team had one lost to the aforementioned OU in Texas

The best the SEC has ever been was possibly 2010. Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and Mississippi State were all strong that year. Mississippi State finished last of the aforementioned teams, and they were 9-4.
Still amazed that Gene Chizik coached that Auburn team.

I wish we had the best coaches. Big 10 has them now.
But yeah, we're the kings year in, year out.

Chiz lost that team in 2011 & 12 and he never recovered. He's better than most think and the way he handled the press during such scrutiny in 2010 was as good as it gets. He just couldn't handle the pressure after he took us to the top.
At one time as a DC he won 29 straight games at AU and Texas and he's proving at UNC that he knows a thing or two about X's and O's, too.
I think he might still make some school a good coach someday.

I'm pretty sure Michigan will be able to play with anybody, anywhere under Harbaugh. And I'm pretty sure Stanford could hold their own against any team in this league.

Harbaugh will crash and burn very soon!
