Targeting is a philosophical subjective discussion depending on what team committed the penalty and if the check cleared.

For example, when Haynes King was hit in the Georgia vs Tech game and fumbled. There was no call for targeting, and it caused an uproar here. Georgia said no targeting. Same situation here, difference of opinion.

Everything here is subjective and triggering.

I’d be scared of him too, guy’s one hell of a safety and a heat seeking missile closing on a runner

Yes, it is targeting......on the ball carrier. He lowered his head.

Nope. Clearly not targeting (as per rule).

If we’re looking at it objectively, Gunner hits dude’s ear hole with the crown of his helmet. So it was targeting on Gunner.

Nope. Just good old fashion football. Very similar to the Bullard hit on Harrison … I bet you don’t think THAT was targeting.

It's possibly being discussed in your living room but nobody else in the world was thinking about the players weight, and they never will.

I’m sure you can get your whiney titty baby Kirby to make a threatening phone call to sankey and force him out. Maybe you can just get big ole meanie Texas out of the playoffs before any games are played?

No, I don’t think it was.

Even though the crown of the QB’s helmet hit the DB in the ear hole (helmet), I do not think the QB was trying to intentionally hurt the DB.

Maybe he can practice sliding and not leading with his head.

Every single tackle made is "targeting" by literal definition.

With that out of the way, the hit you reference is borderline targeting the way the NCAA interprets it, but it wasn't a direct helmet to helmet..and Makuba is far too experienced to launch his head into a player.

In fact this hit was no worse than the one a Georgia DB laid on Isaiah Bond earlier in the game, and nobody said anything about that.

Football is a contact sport and Makuba was doing his job...and that is to stop all forward progress of the ball runner. I'm happy your backup QB was able to get up after that and will be ok, but that's the risk of playing American football.

Our QB's have taken a pounding just like everyone else's. In '22 Dallas Turner launched at Quinn Ewers and drove his shoulder into the turf causing him to miss 3 games. Both Quinn and Arch have taken some vicious hits on sacks this season...but that's football.

Not targeting. Yall won the game, quit trying to cope for no reason.

Exactly, we won on the next play. Yippee. This is not sour grapes.

But that's still fricking targeting. If that's not targeting, Kirby is going to unleash death squads of skull thumpers on people in the playoffs. Some people might even die. I don't want people to die, but if that's the rule, and that's not targeting, it needs to be understood that UGA's defenders now know it's ok to specifically target people's heads without even attempting to wrap up or make a tackle, just straight up launch into helmet to helmet.

I’m saying these types of hits happen all the time on running backs. It just looked worse bc he’s smaller and got his helmet knocked off. I already said it wasn’t targeting.

Although I’ve seen it called for less.
Makuba is a smaller DB, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he and Stockton are the same weight. In fact the Georgia DB that tried to kill Bond earlier in the game is what a larger Safety looks like.
