If we can improve on 3rd down defense this season, Chizik should be fine. Opponents converted more than 50% of 3rd downs against us last season. So far reports from spring practice is this trend has continued. Mostly because we lack play makers on D. Our LB corp is still really weak, has been so every year under Chizik. Recruiting bust in an area we could not afford to have bust.

auburn could improve greatly this year without much apparent improvement in record. they still have to play three teams that went to a bcs (alabama, lsu, clemson) a top five finisher (arky) and what could be a 10 win georgia team. they didnt get within two touchdowns of those teams last year and lost to georgia bama lsu and arky by an average of 42 to 11.

I think it's good to remind folks which posters belonged to that subculture.

Think of it as character evidence.

I personally don't think they will win eight this year.

I can see why. eight tough games.

so that gives you 4 wins.

of the 8 tough ones, Vandy, TAMU and MSU are the weakest opponents.

I doubt you sweep those. if you win two, I bet you are delighted.

Ark, LSU and Bama are L's.

Georgia and Clem are toss ups at best. If you win one of those, you will be delighted.

So. 4 easy ones. 2 of the MSU, Vandy, TAMU group = 6
and one of Clem Georgia = 7.

to get to eight, you will have to sweep the mediocre (Vandy/MSU/TAMU or both Clem and Georgia.

the longer you keep him, the better it is for LSU.
Cam won that championship, and Gus.
You will see it when Gus takes Ark State to a major bowl and Aubie is fighting vs Air Force in the military bowl or the Poolan Chain saw bowl in Shreveport.

Without Julio in 2009, Bama loses to Auburn... Every great team has great players....

Chiz did a GREAT job and kept the team focused in 2010 considering all the controversy that was going on... It was Gene who decided to go for it on 4th down vs. Bama..

How many other coaches could have kept it together with the smear campaign going on...

AU has nowhere to go but up this season. Those numbers have to make AU folk want to .

His dad was bribed. it was not a "smear" campaign.

Aubie got away with it because the NCAA rules permitted it.

no one outside Aubie-land thinks it was a reasonable NCAA decision to allow boosters to buy off parents.

I gave Gene tons of kudos for keeping those players head straight through all of the 2010 controversy.

He didn't have as much luck keeping his 2011 team focused though. There were times when his team appeared to just flat out quit, i.e. the UGA game.

certainly stings. I don't put to much value into auburn getting shite stomped on the road as to being a true indicator of how we'll fair against those teams at home this year.

Bama beating our doors off at home on the other hand did concern me greatly.

Does aubie-land have carnival games. My favorite is the frog on the lilly pad. Man that one is difficult.

I hate AU with a passion, but IIRC, it was MSU folks that were doing the biddin on Cam right?

So, in reality MSU got away with it. They didn't even get their hands slapped for having 2-3 former MSU players involved in a potential PFP scheme. Makes no sense.

I agree,It is very hard to keep guys focused after a NC. Seems to happen at a lot of schools...

LSU and Bama were just better... still he beat USCe and Florida and how many predicted that before the season.. All we heard from opposing fans is that 2011 would be a losing season for Auburn (6-6 at best was predicted).. Going 8-5 was an accomplishment...

Getting drilled 4 times was embarrassing....

We go 8-5 in an even year, people are going to start talking, but there aren't many realistic scenarios that get him fired this year.

I'm guessing 9 wins next year, unless the OL and QB spot solidify very quickly and strong.

New OC and DC with a new QB and major changes at OL. The team will be much improved but as said Ark, LSU and UA are going to be very strong next year.

This year is not a make or break year, if we get blown out it would put him on the hot seat but again anyone with a brain knew this build process was not an overnight thing. We have talent and experience but so does LSU and UA, Ark has a very strong QB that is well coached.
