Part of the reason s $$$$.
Not all conferences share money the way the SEC does. Alabama winning benefits the entire conference monetarily. Not to mention we are 7 in a row now, that's something we want to continue.
I didn't root for Bama over Texas because the streak, at that point, wasn't all that important to me. Also, you shouldn't compare Oklahoma/Texas to Georgia/Alabama, the rivalry is different. It would be more like you rooting for Florida I guess.
Overall, if the conference wins we all win.

The South has an identity outside of just American. Southerners feel like they relate with other Southerners much more than people from the rest of the country. Also, people in the South are told they're ugly, dumb, and poor and football is their way to stick it to the rest of the country.

ya i don't really root for SEC teams. It is a little different now because the streak is cool and it would be nice to maintain, but in a single season type situation I don't root for the SEC.

I've been at NCAA tournament bb games, where Duke, UVA, etc. fans loudly cheer against UNC. I've done the same when Duke plays.
Notre Dame football and Duke basketball have more watching hoping they lose than folks watching hoping they win. It is okay to root against Duke even if you are a fellow ACC school.

I think most people root for their conference when pressed, unless it's their rival in which case damn them to hell.
The south has it's own unique identity and that certainly helps. SEC pride is a proxy for Southern pride, and it's nice to bludgeon those damn Yankees whenever we get the chance.
Hate is the only acceptable emotion. Unless it's Duke football, in which case laughter is appropriate.

It depends.
Different game-by-game scenarios, tbh.
The only time in my life I rooted for Bama was when they made Timmy cry in the '09 SECG...and the only times I've rooted for UF is when they played Bama in the last few years.
I have no ill will towards LSU, AU, or TAMU and hope they do good, unless they face UT of course.
UGA and USCe? Ehhh idk.

No, I always root against the SEC.
Not in basketball though since SOS is much more important.

Read the comments here, the Pac cheers for their own
I usually cheer for the SEC, but my rationale for cheering against Auburn in 2010 was, "it would be great if AU was forever known as the team that ruined the SEC's streak"

Very long time Duck fan, but I pull for the Beavs in every game but one

I always want every Pac-10 team to win any non-conference game. It makes the entire conference stronger.

I, too, always root for Pac-10 schools in all the bowls and out of conference games.

How dare Americans root for Americans in the Olympics

I pulled like Hell for Alabama vs. Notre Dame.
The reason is because A&M beat Bama, LSU had eM, Ga had em so we know we were right there.
ND or OSU or whoever needs to know the SEC is the best. The media doesn't do a good enough jod saying that Bama could have and did lose to 3 teams. They love to talk about Bama being out on this island. Especially after that game. Its like did you watch the LSU, A&M and Ga game.
I felt genuine SEC pride pounding ND. Even though I hate for Bama to get another one - I loved it.

I don't think I'll ever pull for A&M

Outside of LSU, I usually pull for UGA, SCAR, and Staaaate in games that wont affect LSU. I usually root against Bama, OM, UF and tFlagship in any game.

Screw Georgia. Rest of ya'll are cool.

Quite frankly, I did.
1. I absolutely LOATH Notre Dame
2. If Georgia can't win the Natty, I want someone from the SEC to win it. I hope the SEC ties the Natty up for the next 20 years in a row. Hopefully, Georgia will get several of those, but if not, I want a SEC team, I don't care who it is. I would prefer it be different teams....spread the wealth around, but as long as it is a SEC team, I'm happy. (Just not as happy as I would be if it were Georgia)

He gets it.
We as a conference are like-minded (to a fault).
Why wouldn't we pull for like minded teams/individuals.

Interesting that you would say that. Why do you believe this? because traditional powerhouses lost? Was it just a feeling?
