When there are only two in-state schools in a major conference, the talent will coalesce better. Right now it’s too diluted.

Another obvious Texas bump

Aaron Bryant (who?) is about to commit to Texas, and guess who just got bumped from 3* to 4* status today? The sips just aren't as talented as anyone believes - they have a few difference makers but the rest are just bread. Personally I love it, because the idiot fans cannot seem to understand why they are always so mediocre.

With no coaching in sight.

According to Deion Sanders, he said the money, pageantry and stadiums were Texas but the best athletes were out of Florida.

Deion had to skeedaddle out the backdoor of Texas high school football after more scandal than you can imagine. The dude is not an authority on much.

Just a few years ago, 1/3rd of all the QBs in bowl games were from Texas. That is incredible. Theres a lot of talent here. Big. Fast. Strong athletes are big fast and strong. What you do with them is your problem, not the players. Blame the coaches not the players.

I do. Definitely some diamonds in the rough - and A&M has done a good job of coaching up some of those guys. Still, the cream of the crop are a cut above.

Ask tOSU, OU, Alabama, LSU, and A&M about the "elite" players.

TX has more NFL HOFers than any other state and twice as many as Florida so kiss the ring (m)itches....

There are more D1 schools in TX so the talent gets diluted more than other states. Florida is experiencing the same now with UCF/USF/FIU/FAU diluting talent.

List of TXHSFB players that DID NOT go to TU or A&M.

Mahomes - TTU SB MVP
Peterson - OU NFLMVP
T.Thomas - OSU NFLHOF
D. Brees - Purdue will be NFLHOF
Tomlinson - TCU NFLHOF
Singletary - Baylor NFLHOF
RG III - Baylor Heisman
A. Ware - U of H Heisman
Dickerson - SMU NFLHOF
G. Upshaw - A&M Kville NFLHOF
D. Green - Texas A&I NFLHOF
J.Greene - UNT NFLHOF
C. Branch - Colorado
Stafford - UGA
Dalton - TCU
Jamal Adams - LSU
M.Brockers - LSU
J.Waddle - Bama

Great athletes. However, the style of play in Texas is more wide open with less emphasis on the power run game. Maybe that is changing, but still plays a part.

Maybe you should ask Mizzou fans if it's overrated. Pinkel built a legit program primarily from Texas talent that wasn't even hyped like the players better programs recruit.

Texas produces as much if not more QB talent than any other state, which is why schools will always recruit here. Dabo has Klubnik from Austin committed now.

Rarely are OU’s best players from Oklahoma. More often, they are Texas HS players.

I don't see it on the first page and I'm not interested enough to wade through all those pages to see if it's already noted, but I think a lot of Texas high school programs play 7 on 7, so good at developing skill positions but not so great for all positions.

No, there are vast areas of Texas that are uninhibited. There are very few uninhibited land masses in the southeast if any. Florida is the only state in the Southeast that produces that much D1 talent.

If you would take the land mass of Texas and put it over the Southeast, this area puts out 3 times what Texas does in athletes. I would recruit this area every time before I went into Texas. Texas high school football is not better than Southeast, by far.

It's not the landmass it's the population centers. Texas is really like several states and there are drastic differences between the different regions in terms of geography, population, and culture.

Texas also has MASSIVE High Schools that create competition. For perspective, the largest HS in Louisiana has 2300 Students (Dutchtown) and it is the ONLY High School in Louisiana that would be classified as 6A in Texas (the cutoff is over 2200). There are 246 6A High Schools in Texas with the largest being Allen with over 4700 Students (over twice the size of Dutchtown).

In terms of football, if you drew a line 30 miles West of I35 from the Oklahoma border to San Antonio and then 30 miles South of I10 across to where it hits the Gulf that's where 90% of the talent comes from. South Texas, the Panhandle, and West Texas produce only a handful of Top 100 recruits in Texas though Midland/Odessa has some great football tradition.

Florida is the only comparable to Texas in the SEC in terms of raw amount of talent produced, in the end numbers matter.

You have to throw in the rest of the SEUSA in a football discussion vs TX. Heisman trophies, NFL MVPs and NFL HOFers is a huge mismatch for TX vs any other SEC state...And TX has more NFL HOFers than GA & FL combined.

OU may as well be in Texas as far as where they recruit. Always been that way.

UT doesn't rack up like during Mack's heyday. Ohio State got 3 of the top 10 Texas recruits in one year recently. That was more than anyone that year including UT and OU.

Watching HS football on ESPN right now and Texas has 101 ESPN 300 players in the last 2 years followed by 89 for Florida and 60 for Georgia. I'm not sure how good ESPN rankings are but when 2 states (Texas and FL) are responsible for 1/3rd of all the top ranked players that is pretty remarkable. Pretty high mark for Georgia too. I would have thought California would have been 3rd.

Texas HS football is unique in that the public schools are the state powers, and private schools are not relevant.

Almost every other state its the opposite, the private schools are the powers and the publics are not relevant. So those private schools can really stock up on talent and recruit.

Schools in TX definitely recruit(even though its against UIL rules) like Duncanville, Aledo, Allen, Southlake Carroll. However they generally only recruit a handful of players, though the players will usually be difference makers. But for the most part their rosters will be stocked mostly with players who live in the school's zoning.

The private school power in Louisville, KY; Trinity, probably had a roster that was over 50% recruited players, opposed to a roster of maybe 5% recruited players at a place like Duncanville. Mater Dei is probably the same, mostly recruited players.

Yeah, that's surprising. But Georgia does very well in producing football players. Weren't Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields both from Georgia in the same class?

Quality of head coaching choice has most effect: Saban, then Dabo are kings now. Enjoy it while you can.

Yes, and neither were overrated, unlike most Texas players and Texas in general.
