Well, as they say, 'nuff said'.
to Coach Spurrier.

So? It was a shitty program before not because of the university but because of the coaches that were hired before him

I think he was simply putting forth a case why Spurrier should still be considered a top notch coach.

Then i can't imagine where Dan Mullen is because Les Miles beats his arse every year.

But you see what I mean. A certain criteria that most would agree with, or at least a framework from which to start...as opposed to 'he'z the bestest cuz I say so?...

Let me ask you this. Do you think South Carolina has all the advantages as LSU does as a program? What about Georgia?
Uhh, yeah i do.

We were never shitty, just mediocre, until fat bradstard scott came up from FSU and almost destroyed us.
Our problem had always been politics, internal back biting and infighting and a general lack of leadership at the very top. Oh, and we had a very small population combined with a very unethical bunch of cheating fricks in the upstate to deal with.
Paul Dietzel always said we would end-up in the SEC and he deserves credit for getting us pointed that way by getting us out of the ACC and doing some things for us that helped us twenty years after he retired. Jim Carlen was a good coach. Joe Morrison, the man in black, almost won a national championship for us in '84. But after the Sports Illustrated Tommy Chaiken scandal we suffered .... poor leadership, piss poor decision makers.
But then came John Palms as our President - and things began to turn around. He hired Mike McGee who hired Ray Tanner, Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, et al., and the sleeping giant began to come awake a bit.
We're still a long ways from reaching our potential but we've always had a strong and wealthy fan base. We've now got SEC money. And our population has almost tripled since joining the SEC going from 1.5 million total in 1990 to 4.2 million this year. We play good highschool football here as every coach at every SEC school knows ... and now we are keeping them home, thanks to Spurrier. But Holtz really sort of started that with a few players while still losing some to Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn.

LOL. LSU has all the ingredients to be a powerhouse plus they have nobody to compete with in state for local players. The fact they sucked balls in the 1990s is a joke with the advantages they have compared to USC who gets merely 50% of the instate players (because Clemsux gets the other) plus its a smaller pool of players to pluck from.

People are ranking him ahead of Mark Richt and Les Miles, but at least they have SEC Championships.
Richt and Miles don't do practice with there shirts off. Weak.

Agree with this. When was the last time Miles won a BCS bowl?

I see what you're saying. Spurrier has done a pretty good job at South Carolina, but he hasn't done anything noteworthy there. The program was not shite when he arrived there. They were mediocre at the worst, and he's been there for 7/8 years, and hasn't won any championship or major bowl game. Why he is among the best when it took Saban only 3 years at LSU to turn a 3-8 program into a national title program? It took effing gene chizik two years to turn a 5-7 auburn team into a national title winning team. He's good, but i don't think he's among the best. In my opinion, he's currently about equal with Dan Mullen.
Posted on 4/10/13 at 2:49 pm to NeverRains
How would Spurrier have done at LSU if he had gotten the job in the 90s?

That's a great argument! Because the teams chosen to get into BCS bowls are always deserving teams. Come on dude! We're both in the SEC, so I shouldn't have to tell you that picking teams to be in BCS bowls is the most corrupt thing ever. "Every conference deserves a chance." It's like little league, really

Poor leadership? Corrupt politics? Kind of what i meant by shitty coaches

Its a fair question and I'd say kinda he is based on history but not present ability. I think he's still a great offensive mind but he doesn't have a talent advantage at South Carolina like he did at Florida. That, plus him not really loving to recruit means USC is going to be a very good program under him but probably not going to win the SEC or a NC.
Posted on 4/10/13 at 3:08 pm to NeverRains
Yes. While not winning championships he has taken SoCar to levels never before attained and has the upper hand on instate rival now. So yes, yes he is.

That's a little unfair given our "rise" has occured during the golden age of the SEC. We've gotten better but so have many of the other teams.
