You have evidence of this or is this just an LSU fan making bare accusations because he hates Bama?

The only real response to your curiosity and any other teams is: Would you rather have your coach or coach Saban? Some of you will give all kind of clever answers, but I think I know what most would say

You can thank Danny Kannells Dad for that. He was Miami’s team doc. He didn’t think Brees should come. Saban didn’t like that and made it known to him, and they went with Culpepper. If Saban would have had complete control over the situation, and they get Brees, I think this college question would be a moot point because he would still be in the NFL like Belichek. That is one of the many reasons little Danny doesn’t like Saban.

this is all nonsense, he took over a bama team in 2007 and had them 12-0 the next year. All the scores you mentioned were the result of having to play so many freshmen in order to get depth, you will not most of them occurred long after the game was out of reach

NO. He's proven he is an extremely gfifted coach or else he would not have won even with the best players......if that was all, Larry Coker would still be at Miami

Saban has never lost a locker room. I can see that ever happening.

Keep asking Dan but he wont answer. Who is a great coach with great players?

Or you could ask, would we rather have Bama's recruits?

Saban would be a bonus.

Think about this. Gus did that exact same thing in 2013 after AU went winless in the SEC the previous year.

And the second part of your post is part of what I'm talking about. Saban is stuck with more "average playing players" on defense and his defense isn't as good because of it.

Auburn has a true freshmen and sophomore LBs this year.

That's the question of this thread.

Give Saban "average" talent on defense (they still have more natural talent on defense than most other teams too), can he field an elite "Bama" defense?

LSU, FLA, AU have all won championships during Saban's tenure in the SEC though.

I know and they beat Saban to get to the NC. TN was already going down and still hasn't made it back. LSU and FLA haven't been a threat to him in almost 10 years. Just saying if LSU and FLA have maintained their level and TN made it back, they would have knocked him out of the NC games more than happened.

It's just harder in football to separate recruiting, development and "coaching" into 3 different silos.

For Saban to really fit the Bum Phillips quote about Bear Bryant being able to "take his and beat yours and then turn around and take yours and beat his" Saban may need at least an off-season of development.

They can't. It defeats their narrative. It's like that clown Rohan Gravy trying to bring up Saban's NFL stint and neglecting to mention how bad Miami has been since he left. Dolphin fan's would kill for a 9-7 seasons

The two things can’t be separated. This is a “chicken or egg” debate. I get you though. The kind of run he’s had, and the basic human nature involved.....well, if I were the fan of another school, I’d be nit picking him too.

That is a good point, but I would also point out Auburn was only a few years removed from winning it all in 2010. The roster may have been down somewhat, but I doubt it was the level of Bama after probation and Shula

I think it has more to do with Saban's system being too hard to grasp for a lot of freshmen, but this year the injuries added to the already light on depth front 7 leaves him no choice so you get a below average Saban defense. I think 2008/2009 is a decent example of him coaching up some average guys (mixed in with some eleite younger talent) in 2-3 years in his system to be an elite defense

What about 6-10?

The record in the NFL is meaningless....
It’s about making it to the playoffs and playoff wins.

He was a miserable NFL coach on many levels.

He was just miserable.

Hell, he’s miserable now...but he’s the greatest college football coach ever.

He sucked in the NFL and couldn’t wait to get back to college.

loss to OSU

Happened because Kiffin started Sims throwing the ball everywhere when we were up 21-7. They had no answer for Henry in the first half and Kiffin just stopped getting him the ball.

Sims wound up with a couple of picks. The first one if thrown on time was a TD for us.

Except Malzahn was backed up by multiple Top 10 recruiting classes. The talent was there, Chizik was just THAT bad of a coach.

Saban dropped into a program that was still suffering from scholarship reductions and turned them into an elite program within a year.

Also, as to your point about Malzahn, it is true that he had an unbelievable turn around after that nightmarish 2012 season. The difference between Malzahn and Saban is that only one of them sustained that success.

Good point. That is probably the only area Saban has him beat.
