“First, it’s an opportunity to connect with our many fans throughout West Tennessee and expand upon the rich historical links between the Memphis area and UT. We have so much Tennessee family in and around Memphis—especially our medical school and fantastic alumni. And secondly, it’s a tremendous development opportunity for our team and should serve as a primer to spring practice for Coach Pruitt and our returners.”

Now that the bowl is off the table..

Depends just how many boosters will stop supporting the program if Pruitt is retained. The admin has proven time and time again that they don’t give a frick about us normal fans.

As of now my money is on Pruitt returning for a lame duck 2021. Really hope I’m wrong. And if not, frick it we’re a basketball school now.

If you’re watching the auburn search I think you stick it out another year.

It was kind of interesting at the game Saturday watching Fat Phil down on the sideline. He was on the phone or texting the entire second half. Probably about the NCAA investigation. If UT has the right contract language, that could be their get out of jail free card as it relates to the buyout. But, given his history of backstabbing, who would want to come work for Phil if he fires Pruitt now? They need for Phil to retire, hire a qualified AD, and this time, let the pro do the job that he was hired to do.

Because we accepted a bowl bid and then backed out due to “covid”, we get to keep our share of the SEC bowl revenue. That was around 8.5 mil per school last year.

Plus we have a shitload of boosters. If our athletic dept really wanted to fire him, he’d already be gone. Sadly they only care about money, not winning. And somehow don’t realize that more winning = more money.

rockytop627: Thanks for that information. I know the last time Ole Miss was under a bowl ban, they lost $7.8 million (2017). So the payout last year was $8.5 Million.

LSU could use that extra $8.5 Million given the loss of Ticket, concession, parking and merchandise sales at the ball games. Lots of LSU fans saying should have played the bowl game for the money but I was like no, these kids are gassed as LSU finished the last two games vs. Florida and Ole Miss with 50 Scholarship players available, 23 or so of them true freshman.

Keep saying it, maybe it will be true one day. Being broke and blowing money you shouldnt have are 2 different things. Were by no means broke, we have blown a shite ton of money doing things like extending pruitt before the season and paying our other terrible hires preposterous buy outs but if the powers that be decide to move on they have the money to do it.

He doesn’t deserve another year but he will get one.

And 8-4 doesn’t keep his job next season unless we beat one of uga, uf, or Bama

I think Phil Fulmer is gun shy of canning him during this year when coaches seem really iffy on wanting to move to a program that is down.

Long term I think that probably isn't a good thing for the Vols because the writing is not on the wall, its in giant flaming letters in the sky that Pruitt isn't going to turn the corner.

I think Phil holds off for a year waiting for more candidates to open up and hopes to limit the damage. Personally I think that is a bad idea. We held onto Bert a year longer than we should have and not only did we get Chad as his successor but the program declined even further.

The boosters were heavily involved in that as well. And personally, even though I want Pruitt gone now, I’ll take a shitty coach that didn’t cover up child rape over a shitty coach that did.

Announced today that Pruitt's good friend, Will Friend is leaving UT as the OL coach to go to South Carolina to be their OL coach. Don't know if he was told to leave or just jumping ship? I do know that UT had four 5 stars on their OL this season and looked like shite. Friend should have been gone long before now.

We fired butch Jones a year after going 9-4

If he goes 8-4 without beating a rival, I’ll be pissed because the admin will find a way to keep him.

Sounds like JP is using the Nick plan of allowing a coach to find work 1st before having to let them go. Salute if that is the case. Help others before hurting them if at all possible.

Who cares. Friend gets paid $800k to be the worst line coach in the country. It’s absolutely criminal. I’m sure he could live off unemployment for a few years wouldn’t bat an eye.

You keep saying the same shite in every thread with clue.

It will actually cost them money to keep him next year assuming stadium capacity restrictions are lifted. You’re losing multi millions in ticket sales, merchandise and concession sales in order to avoid having to pay an extra few million by firing him next year instead of this year.

The current state of Pruitt is unknown.
He is neither fired nor employed.
Strange.
