Is NIL Overblown?

It seems really strange - almost suspicious that schools like Clemson, and especially Auburn are outrecruiting these big-money Texas schools like UT and TA&M .
Weren't we told over and over again that in the NIL era, nobody would be able to compete with oil money?
Is Steve Sarkisian that bad of a recruiter, or is NIL kind of overblown? Texas made the playoffs last year, they clearly have money coming out of their ears, and are located in a major city, but they can't out-recruit Mr. Prostitute Hugh Freeze and the cow college in rural Alabama?
Seems a bit strange to me.
What do y'all think?

All 3 of your posts are about Texas's recruiting class.

Nope. Even “committed” kids are going to look at final and best offers before signing. On the flip side, just because a program has more $ doesn’t mean they should outspend for 18 year olds.

Yeah I think this is really interesting right now. How is Texas with all of their resources and recent success seemingly getting left behind in recruiting, while Auburn and their recent failure and small bankroll, is doing well?
I hate Auburn, and Freeze to me is unproven as a coach, but he can undeniably recruit like a demon.
Seems like NIL money isn't as important as we all originally thought.

That's some Bevo cope right there. I'm sure Texas is doing whatever they can to lure in the recruits - putting big money on the table. It's clearly not enough

Our last 3 final rankings were #6, #3, and #5. All above Auburn. You're retarded for even looking at the rankings in June.

Lots of stuff can change before early signing. Is it wrong for committed kids to visit another school.

Sure kids want to get paid. They also want to PLAY while being paid. Auburn certainly has the advantage of instant playing time.
The final goal is still the NFL, and you can’t showcase your talent on the bench.
These kids will probably transfer at least once, from whom they originally signed.

From a P5 assistant at a prominent program….
“The first question I get asked nowadays is what kind of NIL package we can offer. If that’s not competitive, then it’s a nonstarter. Second is how they will be utilized and highlighted in the scheme. Many of them don’t even ask about winning anymore.”

My son is an SEC recruit…but he can’t really demand anything. For kids on the bubble of a scholarship teams will offer PWO + NIL. That’s kind of a new thing…they’ll pay everything plus a chunk, but you aren’t a scholarship athlete. That’s not where my son wants to be…but more likely than not he’ll be offered that at at least one school. Going to be awkward.

No, you still have to get "good" players. The coach still has to put together the right team. You can pay all day but if the player isn't good or doesn't work hard or isn't committed or isn't a team guy then you just wasted money.
NIL is important but you have the buy the right guys. Jerry Jones throwing 10's of millions at Dak like he does isn't going to make Dak better, it just shows what a shitty judge of talent Jones is. You better spend a lot on o and D linemen,. I think the Texas schools overlook those spots in favor of another skill guy.

Sure kids want to win, but they are more about getting paid and "looking good" so they can go elsewhere and get paid more before trying for a championship on the way to the NFL. Welcome to the NFL junior league.

Yea, my son is a kicker. Crazy position to find a home, they don’t need you unless they need you.

I think what people aren't acknowledging is that a lot of recruiting still comes down to the head coach, and how much of a salesman he is.
At this point, when a recruit is deciding between the likes of Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Georgia, Clemson, etc. it comes down to relationships with the coaches, facilities, etc. just like it always has. The NIL market is the NIL market, and 80% of schools in the SEC are in the top range as far as paying players is concerned.

Sark has built the culture the right way at Texas. Yes, Texas pays quite well, but it is NEVER about the money first.. I haven't sat in the room, so maybe I'm wrong, but I believe his pitch is.. Come here, work hard, and we will take care of you.. Ask the other players..
But if a guy says.. What's my NIL going to be as his first question.. we don't even waste our time.
You don't think we could have paid Evan Stewart? You don't think his talent would have worked in Sark's offense? Please. ES is a great talent.. but like the rest of that Aggie class, they were about themselves first.. They would push a grandma out of the way to get what they wanted..
This is also why we lost Damonic WIlliams to OU. We weren't going to break the bank on a player that would have likely pissed off the rest of the locker room.. I'm sure it isn't easy to juggle it all.. but Sark has done an amazing job so far, and hopefully he can keep the culture where it is now.
PS: Why are there so many fricking alters today? Oh right.. because I'm responding to one right now..
