No. F__k big whatever. When Perdue is as good as Arky. when Illinois is as good as South Carolina. When that POS conference can have 8 teams in the preseason top 25, I'll consider 9.
We are a ball buster conference. Any sane person knows Bama laid an egg and if played 10 times, would win 8.
I think when we have 4 power conferences of 16 , then let the 4 conference champs play. It truly will be for the Natty.

There already is a 9th conference game. It is the only one that really matters. And it is in Atlanta every year.
There is no difference in scheduling an FCS school versus some crap FBS team. Why does everyone complain about the worst team on a schedule (there will be a worst team every year). Why not focus on the best OOC opponent (like UGA, USCe, UF, UK)? Why not focus on the 2nd best OOC opponent (UGA has had home and homes with Clemson, Colorado, Arizona State, and Oklahoma State over the past 10 seasons).
Quitchabitchin and step up by scheduling more home and homes against Power 5 opponents.
The SEC has never been about rotating teams as fast as possible. But if that is the new fad, start rotating teams between the divisions. (UGA vs UK/Vandy,UTe, etc. are not rivalries and don't need to be protected on an annual basis).

This is the first year in awhile we've had shitty OOC teams littering the schedule. Before now we've had whisky, Oregon, TCU... Etc..

9 creates an unbalanced home/away split and it isn't really fair when conference record determines division champs.
8 is better imo.
10 is the true solution, but it would be pretty damn taxing. IF we ever get to a point where our champ gets an autobid then this is the way to go.

Everyone can play a neutral site game. 4 home, 4 road, 1 neutral.

Definitely. I oftentimes forget that some of the West teams are even in the same conference as us

Sounds fine in theory, but the simple fact is that won't happen and there aren't really any "neutral sites" for the vast majority of the match ups in the league.
I'm sure we will go to 9 because everyone else is, but it's a really poor model.

Yeah, I don't see it being realistic. For most of the teams, you'd have to really stretch to find a neutral site game and even more stretch it to find a suitable stadium. Only one I can realistically imagine would be Texas A&M-LSU in Houston, but that's never going to happen

Makes sense to me.
Neutral site games are great for recruiting... just ask Bama.
They'd rather schedule a neutral site game than a home and home anyway (fear of road games).

It would be cool. A whole conference schedule every three years and all.

Is it time for 9 conference games?
Is it time for the SEC to move to 9 conference games?
The BigTen just announced that they are moving to 9 conference games, a mandatory OOC game against another Power 5 conference team, and elimination of games against FCS teams.
With HD TV and the downward trend of attendance across the nation, I think this is a good move for the BigTen and the SEC should follow. Why are we paying upwards of $70 a seat to watch the local SEC powerhouse to pummel the likes of East Montanna State Community College?
I may be wrong but with the BigTen change, all Power 5 conferences have moved to 9 conference games except for the SEC.
YES!!! You INCREASE the conference, you INCREASE conference games!!!
Also, FYI, ACC only does 8 games.

ACC also schedules quality OOC games (like the SEC East).

Yes. It's also time to go back to 10 team conferences. Play everyone once and get rid of the conference championship game.
Worked flawlessly for the Big 12 last year, didn't it?

Right, and realizing that is never going to/can't happen...the ones pining for 9 games will be the first ones crying when they lose the division to a team that had 5 home games.

That will just add to the scheduling irregularities (with an uneven number of games at home and on the road).
Not necessarily, if you mandate that one of the conference games be played in a neutral site, as is the case with Arkansas-Texas A&M and Florida-Georgia. It would balance it out for those teams who are otherwise giving up a home SEC game every other year.
Given the number of NFL towns in SEC territory (e.g. New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Jacksonville, Nashville), it wouldn't be difficult at all.

So there are potential issues with LSU fans?
