I knew that would get the attention of a hog fan

From '50 to the 90's the UPI and AP were the standard for National Titles. Bama won both the UPI and AP in '64. If Ark wants to claim the Peoples Choice or the Ozark tribune national title, go for it.

Only according to Bama fans on message boards in the 21st century. At the time it was considered a split National Title.

If by 'unanimous' you really mean you won the AP while USC won the UPI (coaches) then, yes, 1978 was definitely unanimous...

From Wikipedia they are not as bad as some make them out to be, but I would put the real number at 9.
quote:

The University of Alabama 2009 Official Football Media Guide states that Alabama had 12 national championships prior to winning the 2010 BCS National Championship Game.[84] The 2009 title brings the total number of national championships claimed by Alabama to 13. In addition to the championships claimed by the university, the NCAA lists Alabama as receiving a championship for the 1945, 1966, 1975, and 1977 college football seasons,[6][82] however those championships are not claimed by Alabama. Eight of Alabama's national championships were awarded by the wire-services (AP and Coaches' Poll) since their inception.[6][82] In the 1980s, then-Alabama Sports Information Director Wayne Atcheson added five national championship teams (1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941) -- recognized prior to the modern era -- to the University's Football Media Guide. According to Atcheson, he made the effort in the context of disputed titles being claimed by other schools, and "to make Alabama football look the best it could look." Though the claim was made in the spirit of competition with other claimants, Atcheson maintains that the titles he included are the school's rightful claims.[85] Since World War II, Alabama only claims national championships awarded by the final AP Poll or the final Coaches' Poll. This policy is consistent with other FBS football programs with numerous national title claims, including Notre Dame, USC, and Oklahoma. All national championships claimed by the University of Alabama were published in nationally-syndicated newspapers and magazines, and each of the national championship selectors, listed below, is cited in the Official 2010 NCAA FBS Record Book.[86]

Using his criteria, all of LSU's titles are considered split.

58' won AP and UPI- gold standard unanimous.
07' won AP and Coaches

and we don't claim 1908, so not going to bother looking.

Agee it is unanimous. The writer of the article would not agree because the FWAA was awarded to another school.

I'd say most Princeton graduates never lived in a trailer park, and if they did, I doubt they're still there.

It's laughable that some Bama fans claim 13. Ftr, the Bama people I hangout with are good people , but they only claim 8 and usually shut up other Bama fans that try to say they have 13.
