Not rivals, but Bama is more Georgia's nemesis.

Georgia and Alabama have never played one another very often. It has never been a big rivalry on the UGA side and, can't speak for Alabama fans, can't imagine its ever been one for them. UGA and Tennessee were also not rivals before SEC Expansion. Most seasons Alabama, playing UT every year, did not play UGA and UGA only played UT or Alabama occasionally and almost never in the same year. I may be wrong but I think UGA and Alabama have played more than UGA and UT, that may have changed since expansion.

I checked - it has not. UGA has played UT a total of 53 times and Alabama 73 times. Thats the Fifth most played SEC opponent in UGA history behind Auburn at 128, Florida at 102, Vandy at 83, and South Carlina 76. Tennessee would be 6h at 53. UGA has played Georgia Tech 115 times so counting outside of conference games they'd be second on the list. Winning records against all of those except Alabama and LSU who has a 4 game advantage in 33 games. It used to be rumored that there was a gentleman's agreement between UT, Alabama and UGA that they would not schedule one another often outside of UT and Alabama. I don't know if that is true or not and the numbers do not seem to support it. Had it not been for expansion UGA would have played Alabama a bunch more than UT. I have had a bunch of older UGA fans tell me that Wally Butts and Bear Bryant definitely agreed not to play one another a bunch....I do not know if there is anything to it but older UGA fans mostly say its so....

We’ve beat their arse multiple times in the last decade, so if anyone thinks it’s a rivalry, they’d have to acknowledge it’s a pretty lopsided one

I’d say it’s more of a “nemesis” relationship than a “rivalry”

I live in GA, and never even really cared about UGA until a few years after I moved here and kept being told by their fans how much they hated us. I imagine outside of the state I’d go back to not really caring anymore

You don't have the all time greatest coach walking the sidelines anymore.

Best not live in the past. I am sure Coach Katelyn will do well but she is a rookie in the sec.

No. They are more like LSU. It’s a big game but losing is not the feeling you get losing to auburn or Tennessee. There’s nothing personal there. Auburn and UT are very personal.

I see answering the OP’s question honestly has triggered you

I agree we don’t have Saban on the sideline anymore, but if anything having your coach’s daddy as our HC makes this less of a “rivalry”

Very excited to see how the next few seasons play out in the new SEC though

I just checked, turns out the SEC has been playing with the same rules as the rest of college football. We are good.

Just the latest team that's challenged Bama

Early Saban- Florida
Mid Saban- LSU
Late Saban- Georgia

You say that like Smart didn't need Coach Saban to be where he is. You guys should get with Ole Miss, and Shorthorns fans and have a sing-a-long, "I Did It My Way."

They are just the two premier programs in the country right now and happen to be in the same conference

He retired as head coach. He still is on the payroll. I guess what I'm trying to say is, that you're wrong again.

No.

GA/Bama is only a function of them meeting in the SEC Championship game in the last 10 years.

As soon as one of them drop off marginally, it will be over.

Bama/Tennessee, Bama/Auburn, GA/Auburn, GA/FL will always be rivalries regardless of how good the teams are.

UGA and Bama aren’t rivals. Just a very big game. Not much history between the two

Honestly I hate Ohio State more after all their whining in the 2022 playoffs. Bunch of pussies.

Nemesis is definitely the right term for Bama, they've been the standard and we've had so many cases of falling just short. Their fans don't usually delight in rubbing salt in our wounds the same way Auburn & Florida fans do - it's just two great teams playing and someone has to lose.

And by Gawd don't let us lose to Tech. Their shittalk is a whole new level of BS
