I don’t think you could. Auburn is in a tough spot right now. Paying many other coaches with expectations of beating Bama every year. Bankers and yellow wood men hurting Auburn. Saban walked into the room at Bama and told all the old Bear Bryant guys to get out of his way and stay out. Only a few people can pull that off at Auburn or Alabama. Run by money men.

A lot more than you think. They are run by a lot of powerful wealthy boosters. The difference is Nick Saban. He refused to take orders and with his winning they can’t touch him. Nick changed the environment at Alabama. At least as long as he is there. Auburn lined up to fire Bowden and Chizik and Tuberville and Malzahn even when they were winning. Take away Saban and what do you have at Bama? Stallings who was run out at Bama. I can go down the list but Gene won a title. And they still ran him off. Not to mention the Mikes, Curry, Perkins, Dubose etc. Dennis ran before then ran him out.

Yes. I say that as a fan of the team that just got our season sunk by Beamer. He’s a likable guy. Who else? Kirby’s not exactly likable outside of UGA fans. Saban is respected, but not liked by everyone outside of Tide fans. Brian Kelly has come out looking better than he did coming in but that’s a low bar. Heupel isn’t exactly a likable personality outside of TN fans. Napier doesn’t show much personality. Kiffin is Kiffin. Jimbo is Jimbo.
Maybe Pitman or Leach, but neither of them have that personality that makes you happy for him when he wins against someone other than your preferred program.

I was VERY critical of the Beamer hire when it was made. One of my main complaints, "Beamer is a nice guy, and we all know where nice guys finish."
Glad to say, at least in year 2, I was wrong.
