The ONLY reason Bama had that lull in the early 2000s was because of sanctions, which they are designed to do.
Remember, Mike shula isn't the coach without sanctions. Hell neither is Fran. Butch Davis was leaving the canes for Bama. He got someone's ear at the NCAA, I believe, as most others do, it was David swank who told butch they were gonna hammer Bama. We had to hire shula because no one else wanted it, for good reason. Our 3 finalists when shula took the job was shula, Richard Williamson and croom.

Anyway, without sanctions those years don't happen. Bama has always been, Will always be a force in sec football.

When Bama beat auburn in 08 36-0, it was apparent to auburn brass that probation had beaten Bama 6 straight and not really tubs. They saw what was gonna happen to tubs when Bama had 85 legit sec players and showed him the door.

Gene Stallings was a great coach, you really didn’t have much of a talent advantage at all.

I am not going into it, but you are going to have to pull back in a lot of shite with Saban leaves, as he and Emerett will leave at about same time. We are really pissed at you Mfers but unlike you bastards we are not back stabbers and will remain loyal and not rat you out.

However, Ohio State, Notre Dame and some others are lying in wait. Everyone in coaching circles knows this, Saban didn’t make a lot of friends like Bear did to cover this shite. ( Hang around Senior bowl some time, you can sit right next to them hear them talk about abiding their time, etc. ).

So his successor will either have to pull back on “certain things”, or likely get nailed as other schools get their pound of flesh. Sins of the father shite. Some of this same shite happened after Bear, it wasn’t just probations it was inability to do “things”. They passed rule after rule and stayed on your arse. SMUs getting smashed was a really a warning to everyone else, clean it up. 3 strikes you are out. You guys have been on 2 for years.

Hence, who wants to be that Coach, expected to be Saban like without all the tools.

You do realize tose 3 coaches all had a 10 win season while coaching at Bama. Perkins was a bridge for the program after the Bear. I hope the coach that follows Saban is as tough and smart as Perkins was!

Saban wins because he is the best recruiter and gets the best players at Bama just like he did at LSU. There is no conspiracy, the refs are not favoring Bama, Bama simply has better players right now. And saying a team will take a step back when the GOAT leaves is simply stating the obvious. It is just easier for people like you to assume somebody is cheating then simply to admit that another team is better. It is delusional, sad, and pathetic.

They’ll be ok, but obviously no where near where they are now. I do wonder if Saban wants to move on soon. At some point before retirement, he’s gonna want a new challange right?

I am 31 and grew up in Tuscaloosa. Before Nick Saban the last time UA had a program that was in regular national championship contention was under Gene Stallings, who retired in 1996. For the next 10 years, Alabama had a mediocre program, riddled with sanctions and inconsistent performance until they hired Nick Saban. At the time they hired him they offered him the largest contract ever offered to a College Football coach, essentially full personnel control something never offered before to college coaches.

Everyone who has lived in Tuscaloosa, is my age or older, knows that Nick Saban is the reason UA's program is what it is. They do have a legacy and will be great even once he's gone. However, he is the Dynasty. Whenever his career at Alabama ends there is no guarantee that Alabama's program will be #1 in the country.

Bama never had a problem winning football before Saban. Saban just put it in overdrive and built the greatest college football program of this century if not all time. The next coach will benefit from Bamas blue blood status and Sabans triumphs.

LSU puts everything into beating Bama, the reason y'all bust in a couple of games a year (Florida this year). If your coaches would have practiced for Florida instead of Alabama that week y'all would just have that one loss.

I give you Bill Curry, Mike Shula and Ray Perkins as evidence that Bama without a great coach is just like any other school

In his 3rd and final season at UA, Curry went 10-2 and finished in the top 10.

In Ray's 4th and final season, he went 10-3 and finished in the top 10.

Alabama had success with the BEAR. Did okay with a few others then won more with Saban than the BEAR. Now having said that, what do you think?

We've had success long before Bryant came.

It's called tradition. Bama has won championships more than any school since the 20's. And the fans support and put their money where their mouth is.

It's called coaching. They have had 7 coaches who coached there for a time and won national titles. Saban is just the latest (maybe the greatest but that's open for conversation).

And they get players. They are currently tied for second in the SEC in the number of five star players on the roster with LSU. Georgia has more than both. But UA is broke out with 4 star types. Saban went 12-0 regular season his second year at Bama in 2008 with Shula's players. Then went 14-0 and won the natty his third year with 16 of the 22 starters recruited by Shula. Saban recruits all over but Bryant won mostly with Alabama kids.

Well, look at the record before Saban. Pretty easy to see its him.

Think AU had a like a six win streak until Saban for example.

You under 30 so I can’t explain it, but they are fine without Saban as long as they don’t get caught

You loons play us like autistic children in a rage in every sport. It's strange. We didn't get the memo that we were rivals.

Melt:

Bama is all Emmert and boosters. If the NCAA allows any program to cheat at will and get enough 5*s anyone can win with them. Saban has proven more than not against equal competition that he is average without a talent advantage.

Never have I seen a more mediocre thread generate so many melts and from quite a few different fanbases.
