Addiction is 100% a disease. The uncontrollable urge to satisfy the dopamine uptake receptors in the brain, is 100% physiological, and 0% psychologica
Not a single person in this thread has mentioned that Manziel suffers from bi-polar disease. Now, if any of you have experience with bipolar disorder, it is not uncommon for people to self-medicate, which makes the situation far worse.
Yes, choosing to drink alcohol is an existential choice - a total expression of free will for most people. However, drinking to excess, or to the point that it dominates your life, is most likely a symptom of some other psychological disorder. And because of that reason, alcoholism, or other substance abuses, is in fact a disease.
And there is also plenty of evidence our there that suggests that there are genetic predispositions for addiction as well...

What does nice alter mean? Anyway, Manziel is just a kid that was born with a horrible disease. He can no more stop drinking or doing drugs than you can stop breathing.
People like you just don't understand. Diseases don't just disappear because somebody says "be strong" or "don't do it".
you're a liberal aren't you.

"A once in a lifetime football talent, one of the best college QB's to ever play the game"
Didn't look like it when he played them TIGAHS

He's created a lot of his own problems by being an attention whore. Dude had a nice college skill set that didn't translate well into the NFL.
He's fricked up the many second chances he's already been given.
Got no sympathy for him...and I'm not just saying this because he went to TAM.

He will always be able to earn a few bucks by loading up his van and selling t-shirts around College Station.

Those same medical professionals have the exact same success rate as doing nothing at all to treat addiction at 5%. So maybe they are wrong?
