Give the power 5 conference champs auto bids plus three at large bids

Top four teams get home field advantage with the higher seeds of the final four getting to pick which NY6 venue to play in

The old school fans aren't the problem. Its the reactionary, everyone gets a trophy crowd that's the problem. They'll never be satisfied and they don't care what it does to the sport because they simply have to find a solution when there isn't a problem.

People wanted 4 during the BCS era because there were times when we felt that we were one game short. Nobody ever bitched that the 5th or 6th ranked teams were worthy of a title. Now we want to change the entire dynamic again just so we can include everyone and some of you sky screamers will simply kick the can to the 9th or 10th team the moment we go to 8.

College Football isn't the NFL. There are 129 teams that have varying resources and come from multiple conferences. There will never be a clean and sterile way to have a playoff. The current system does a good job balancing the importance of the regular season and a postseason that produces a worthy champion.

No it's just common sense even the FCS has a 16 team playoff. 8 makes sure you can get your conference champs plus a few teams like Bama and Ohio State last year and Georgia and Ohio State this year.

It also takes away the doomsday scenario that is what happens if all power 5 champs are 11-1 or 12-0

Needs to be some kind of reward for finishing 1 and 2 and a 6 team playoff would create that.

How do you decide who is 1 and 2? Way too big an advantage to be arbitrary.

All for 8 team playoff.

Take p5 champs and 3 at large.

Bye week after Conference Championship games.

Top 4 seeds get home game, Those games would be held this weekend!

The remaining 4 games will play as they are now.

Only problem is number of games for the season.

Do you keep it the same and ask the top 8 to possible play 16 games? I personally would say suck it up. Isn't a problem for college basketball and wasn't a problem when Baseball moved away from 1 to best of 3 in the world series.

Or

Do you eliminate 1 OOC game? Eliminate the LSU vs Rice type games. Even the "buy a win" games have huge economic impacts. No way this would happen

I'll take 8 games but you have to find a way to shorten the regular season by 2 games. Are we really gonna ask college players to play 16 games, some risking their NFL worth and draft status for essentially a 16 game season?

I already think 15 is too much, 16 is just too much for players who aren't even being paid in the first place.

I'd actually prefer 6 teams with the top 2 teams getting a bye

First: 3 wouldn't play 4 they would play 6
4 would play 5.

Second: The games are about money.

The administrations of the universities would consider it a punishment to be selected as 1 or 2.

Every single one of these schools would rather the game be played in their home stadium as opposed to somewhere else.

Under a 6 team scenario most teams would prefer to be placed as 3.

No, but six is a real possibility imho. Here’s why!

1. I am a college and pro fan. I live in a pro city. Pro ball is great. However, my passion is college for the same obvious reasons most of you love college ball. Unpredictability!!

Eight or Sixteen teams begins too feel like pro ball. No bueno

I like the 4 team format. Until this year. Georgia and OSU should have been teams five and six.. no question in my mind that either could beat anyone above them on a given night. So, what to do.

2. I’m not 100 % with the CFP committee. Too much regional bias. So, let’s grade on a scale.

A. Conference champs gets 25%
B. Strength of schedule as determined after regular season 30%
C. Committee 25%
D. Computer rankings 10%
E. Fans 10%

Fan vote takes place immediately after conference games.
Committee meets one time. No need for show every week. Build up excitement
Won -loss record has no factor- of course in reality it will, but hypothetically, a team who plays the alabama’s every week and lost 3 games still could get in.

Final top 25:determined this way.

Seed 1&2 get byes till semi final New Year’s Day
Seed 3 vs seed 6
Seed 4 vs seed 5
Quarterfinals played 2nd Saturday December. The rest of playoff continues as currently.

Quarterfinals played at highest seeds house.
Cfp runs quarterfinals.

I was against expansion but believe this scenario would work. The networks could bid on quarterfinals. I don’t see any contractural issues to prevent this happening next year.

GET WORKING ON IT POWERS TOO BE.

Its not too many. Top 4 host the first round on campus. 16 would be even better. First two rounds on campus. Would be an epic month of football

Oh so having to actually win games on the field vs a popularity contest is equivalent to "everyone gets a trophy"

By this logic, we should have stayed with the original 8 game NCAA basketball tournament.

The playoff is the right thing for CFB. The only question now is finding the right number of teams. IMO 16 is the perfect number. It would never extend beyond that due to logistics and would provide an epic end to every season.

An 8 team playoff is 100% going to happen.

The real question is whether it will include an automatic bid for the 5 power5 conference champions and 3 at large.

My personal hope is that it doesn't.

My preference would be for the old BCS format of computer polls averaged with the AP and Coaches.

Selecting the 8 best teams based off of those averages.
