Yes. That was an incredible team with zero weaknesses.

Who did they lose to in the SEC tournament title game?
Some fluke squad with 2 1st Round Bust on the team

UNLV had 3 pros on that team...
Kentucky had 7-9. Stop.

Lawdy, what is this so-called modern-day basketball you speak of? Like, all the way back to 1990?
Do you watch basketball? Wait...you're still a kid. My bad...
Once upon a time there was a team in 1996 called the Kentucky Wildcats...

You couldn't have missed my point more. No one has an idea how Kentucky would match up with Kareem's teams back at UCLA or Bill Walton's group on a level playing field. Or still, the only undefeated basketball champs, 1976 Indiana team.
Bob Knight, Jim Crews, Tom Abernethy, Bobby Wilkerson, national POY Scott May, Kent Benson, and Quinn Buckner, were voted as the best-ever by NCAA.com, the United States Basketball Writers Association, and sports information directors.

I saw Ron Mercer play in high school
a little 5'6 point guard would take off 110 mph and bank a pass off the backboard and Mercer would follow it and flush it with his head even with the rim

If modern is last 30 years, yeah probably. Pitino was amazing at what he did. Still is in some ways. If he wasn't a terrible person, he would be way more loved than he is.

The crazy thing is we played Calipari twice that year when he was at UMass. Beat em in the Final Four.
Pitino is the best coach at UK since Rupp. I’ve said this for years. That ‘96 team was a joy to watch. They laid a first half beat down on LSU that season. I don’t know what was worse: that beating or the 31 point comeback 2 years prior.

The first NCAAT was held in 1922. Id say 30 of 100 years of the sport would be a fair time-frame to call "modern." Someone else separated it based on the 3 point line, which is also a fair starting point IMO. I think people sometimes forget how long ago 1990 is now

1996 UMass is probably one of the 5 best teams of all time that didn't win the title. That team was incredible.
