Hard to imagine a team being that bad in the NIL/Portal era

pretty bad especially when all it takes is to get hot for at least one game at 3 point line and other team might not have a good shooting night

lsu was pretty bad last year and still was able to pick up a win over a talented hogs team

even in lsu probation years which were pretty lean LSU could scrounge up a few wins

I think it's just going to get worse. The haves and the have not. In the past every team could get a couple of decent players and win a few games at least. Now, the top programs will get all the talent.

And a program can fall apart in an off season. I thought Arkansas would be just fine this year but we made some poor choices in the portal and fell off a cliff.

The problem is that if that happens once or twice the rich folks funding the NIL can easily decide they've got better things to spend their money on. And then your program is really screwed.

On average, yes. But you also have to account for talent evaluation as part of this.

Josh Hubbard is one of the best freshmen in the SEC this year, yet he was a 3 star coming out of high school with just 5 offers. There will always be parity due to some kids getting looked over.

I know Darius Garland got hurt before the season, but that one was really bizarre to me. Aaron Nesmith and Saben Lee both started on that team and both are in the NBA. Matt Ryan for the Pels was on that team too. No idea how they sucked so bad.

Yea and they had Bryce Drew as their coach-- the same Bryce Drew who's leading Grand Canyon U. into the Dance, with the best NET of any non-P5 team this year.

How can it get worse? We’re recruiting top five in the country over the next two years and the guys we have aren’t exactly supposed to be bad, just a slight step down from last year. That’s the real head-scratcher.

Yes, but that is his point...Hubbard will not be at MSU next year.

Not to worry. Hubs will be well taken care of and he will be back at State next year.

As for Vanderbilt (per Wikipedia) "They were the first SEC team to go winless in a season since the 1954 Georgia Tech team".

*technical edit...for some reason, the Georgia Tech won their second matchup against Georgia that season, but it isn't counted as a conference win for some reason. Their only 2 wins that season were against South Carolina and Georgia.

Especially bad considering Missouri was brought in to make basketball in the SEC better.

I mean, it did get better after they joined... mostly in spite of Mizzou though, not because of them.

Since joining the SEC in 2012 (numbers do not include this season):
4 NCAA Tournaments:
3 first round departures
1 second round departure
1 NIT Tournament (2nd round departure)
0 SEC titles (regular season or tournament)
Highest regular season conference finish: T-4th (2022-23)
Losing seasons: 6 (out of 11)

Teams Missouri has a winning record against in the SEC:
3 (now 2, as South Carolina has evened the record this season) - Vanderbilt and Georgia remaining; Missouri is now 1 loss away to either to even up those records. Missouri is 9-8 against Vandy, 11-10 against Georgia.
