2011 is the only really problematic year. 2008 and 2012 were terrible AU teams. 2009 Auburn wasn't great but it was a close game. 2011 Auburn was clearly heading for disaster, but it wasn't that apparent until the end of the year.
So the question is whether this is a 2009, close, competitive game, or whether Auburn is in 2011 form and trending downward.
Considering Alabama isn't really a juggernaut this season, I'm hoping it'll be a pretty solid game.

Yeah, I was wondering if Bama gets credit for beating a "good" Auburn team IF they do win this year.. My first instinct would say yes, but what do Auburn fans think? I'm guessing TiM would say no.

we went from a decent team early to a struggling team late.
If they decide to play, it will be another great game. My feeling is that we will not be able to move the ball very well

We have some form of offensive paralysis right now that is kind of inexplicable. If that continues we're obviously screwed.

So true. If Alabama wins the Iron Bowl, it'll be because Auburn wasn't good this year. So we'll hear the same excuses next year. On the other hand, if Auburn wins, it'll be because both teams were good and Auburn always wins when both are good. Or something.
More evidence that these and other AU fans determine Auburn's worth by the Iron Bowl outcome. Win = great AU team. Lose = shite AU team.

The favored team wins over 80% of the time. Not enough drama to be worth watching, but I will because this year it directly affects State.

I would say you guys have beaten a good AU team if you win this year.
It would probably be the best AU team Bama has managed to beat since 1994.
The Gump trying to convince himself this game doesn't mean as much to Bama is stupid but let's go with it.
The IB is less important to Bama because they have failed so many times when facing a quality AU. Coping mechanism. Just give up and say the IB is more important to AU. Not like AU fans don't kill each other, vandalize property and commit felonies when they lose. Oh, wait that would only be gumps that do that.
Here is a question, how many gumps will get killed if AU wins this year?

Serious answer: both sides play with a lot of passion and emotion in the biggest rivalry game in college football.
That emotion goes either strongly in Auburn's favor or strongly against them, hence close games or blowouts.
But it goes against everything Lord Saban teaches, so it actually hurts Bama and games that they have no business losing, they do.
Hate to say it but there's some truth to this. Saban is a cold calculating coach -- very little emotion whereas The Bear (peace be upon him) understood there was a place for emotion in certain games and knew how to bring out the best in his guys.
This is the one area Saban is deficient in but with this new crop of players he is beginning to improve. In the past, Saban has looked at every game as equal. When he lost the Iron Bowl, he would shake his head at the fans for being so upset because to him it was just another game.
I really think last year's IB got to him. And maybe some of the Bama Illuminati. He's beginning to understand what this game means to both teams and both fanbases. There are rivalries and then there is the Iron Bowl -- tOSU/Michigan, and any others is NOTHING like this game.

Did you miss Saban screaming at his team on the sideline up 28-0 against AU in 2008? You don't remember him turning purple while screaming "DON'T YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I HATE THESE MOTHERfrickERS!!"
Lol, Saban hates AU with a passion.

If it was any other fanbase, this would be cause for alarm. Not for ours. This has gone on time immemorial. I guess we're just too full of Bama.

Yeah I remember that. The thing is though is he *thought* he hated Auburn but never nearly as much as the rest of the fanbase does. I think he's just beginning to understand.

That y'all are.
I think the melt this year will be bigger than last year if AU wins. Probably biggest melt of all time by any fanbase ever.

It's always about expectations. Personally, I thought this team would finish the reg season at 9-3 but in my mind we have way over-achieved. It would be nice to beat Auburn and move on though. We'll see. We may be favored but I put this game at 50/50. Either team could win.

Except no. If this team can't beat Auburn, it wouldn't have won anything anyway. And even if we don't, we'll still be going to a BCS bowl.

Nick Marshall is a shifty one. It will be a good game, imo.

I pretty much agree with you but I truly think a big portion of the fanbase will start to add the years up if Auburn wins. Nick would be 4-4 against us and with what he has had to work with, that is way underachieving.
