Yeah, people get the purpose of targeting twisted. It's not just to protect the offensive player, it's to protect the defensive player from themselves as well. God forbid we ever have another Chunky Mullins situation.
That being said, if player safety is the reason for the call,I still firmly believe offensive players should be subject to targeting calls as well....

I’ve seen a rb get called for it because he lowered his head right before contact. But that was in high school about ten years ago

You can call holding or pi on an play you want if your a ref , the point he's making is the guy that was in position to make the call didn't call it. The back judge waited till Kool aid was at the 35 or 40 yard line before he threw the flag . This ref was fifty yards on the opposite side of where the play occurred and felt the need to throw the flag when he had already posted a 4.3 forty yard dash. This same crew missed at least three different timesTennessee d- lineman late hit young to the head after he threw the ball . By the way I think this crew was calling the LSU - ole miss game yesterday with like 25 flags and every other play being flagged.

That 1 recent win UGA has against Bama was not as spectacular as the score showed either. Bama was driving deep into UGA territory with 4 min left to take the lead when Bryce Young threw an int if my memory serves me and that was with Bama being down 4 future NFL players due to injury, including 2 DBs whose replacements got smoked for TDs.
