Because the people who grow up poor and uneducated have the basic human drive to feel important, too. And nobody grows up thinking to themselves, "you know what would make me feel great about myself? Pulling for Alabama's little sister."
Auburn fans exist because they (themselves or someone in the family tree) either decided to go to school to be a farmer or wanted to rebel against their bammer family.
