quote:All of this is true but that was Kirby's first year as a head coach at any level.
Kirby’s first year record of 8-5 was a step back from the 10 win seasons Georgia fans had grown accustomed to. There was a lot of rumbling among Georgia fans whether Kirby was the right guy or if Georgia should cut their losses and hire an established head coach.
Deboer isn't having to make that adjustment from Coordinatior to HC.

It is like everyone has forgotten that at times over the last few years Alabama didn’t exactly look like a well oiled machine. And that was with arguably the greatest coach of all time who had been at Alabama 17 years.
Saban left DeBoer with a loaded team that made the CFP
At LSU, Saban left Les Miles with a loaded team in 2005. LSU went 11-2 Miles’ first year.
What DeBoer is doing is not normal for a coach of his status making that kind of money and it is panic time for Bama.
You guys act like it’s Saban’s first year at LSU. What DeBoer is doing is more about what I would expect a good coach to do with what Orgeron left BK. DeBoer inherited a WAY BETTER situation than most.

Example 4,437 of a LSU fan who danced in the street about all of the Alabama transfers turning around and proclaiming Alabama the most talented team in the country.
If Deboer manages to somehow finish the regular season with only 2 losses it may be the final straw that completely breaks LSU fans like the one above.

Top 3 WR
Top 4 CBs
Top C
The best safety in the country
Yeah, Bama has talent, but it's not like this was some ready made championship team.
IIRC, you were one of the ones whooping it up about Bama getting decimated in the portal, but now your opinion is this roster is "loaded". Which is it?

3 players on the Bama offense were in the hunt for the Heisman.
Only Burrow on the 2019 LSU team was in the hunt for the Heisman.

A coach shouldn't have to....but they do. That's why they ride the players to eat properly, work out religiously, watch game film, work on fundamentals. Kids just haven't learned how to do it and many are not self motivated.
A part of every coaches job is to motivate the players.

It was quite a few. Yet this is the rant, so the rantards want to herald the loss of half of Alabama’s players while simultaneously proclaiming them the most talented team in the country. It is truly an incredible act of mental acrobatics.
Cap, about time for you to send out distress signals.

At least we have the Georgia game to hold on to.

Pretty sure we heard all off-season they were championship caliber. They still not out of it technically.

You are a fricking moron. We have plenty of hindsight to know Kirby was the right guy.
Don't have a problem with kirbys first season now or then.
Kirby took Rick's players to the edge of a nc and his on guys to win 2ncs.

Those players that want to be great don’t depend on a coach to motivate them. They are self motivated! That’s why they succeed at every level!!

I think what Joel Klatt said is more interesting. He said DeBoer is another Lincoln Riley

Ok. But the poster said it wasn't a coaches job to motivate players. It IS a coaches job to motivate players. You can't carve out some players and leave some players out of the equation. Even some of the very best players need to be motivated from time to time. It is more rare for a player to not ever need motivation than for players to need some motivation.

Honest question. have you played a sport at the high school or higher level?
I never played with or against a single player that never needed to be motivated. And i have played with and against a truckload of players that ended up in the NFL I've known another truckload of players that ended up in the NFL and they would all tell you they needed to be motivated at one time or other.
Sure, you will come across the Jerry Rice and Tom Brady sometimes. But they are the exception and certainly not the rule.
Part of the coaches job is to motivate the players. Yes, even in the NFL and certainly at any level lower.

Honest question. You don't believe Saban motivated players?

LSU fans claimed that all of Alabama’s talent transferred when Saban retired. There was a whole thread tracking it.
Oh stop with the “what about”
Are you arguing this Bama roster is less talented than what KS inherited? If you are then it’s idiotic.

I believe Saban set a STANDARD and it was up to the players to meet that standard if they wanted playing time. Look at some of the linebackers that were 4 and 5 stars that didn't get playing time until their junior season.
But NIL has changed all of that. And therefor the reason Saban said "frick it I'm out". Players are only motivated by how much and how soon. There's very little a coach can do.

Isn’t it up to the players to be as good as they can be? The standard was already there. A coach shouldn’t have to make you live up to it!
Not sure if you knew this, but Ryan Williams is 17 years old.

So kicking the ball away from the refs, refusing to leave the field when the coach is replacing you, and acting like a toddler is being a leader????
