USC claims 2003

Which goes to show what an absolute joke the BCS could be at times, and what an even bigger joke it was that they had that system for 10 more seasons after 2 teams had a claim to a national championship in the 21st century

Think you might be lost.

This is an SEC website. Do us a favor and navigate back over to your Big 12 - 2 - 2 + 2 (WV and purple Baylor lol @ those teams) and post your hot takes over there.

Or maybe take a break altogether and go watch the 2005 Rose Bowl looping on LHN.

Your soft 7 on 7 conference has nothing in common with the SEC, ie National Championships, dominant NFL draft picks, d-lines, linebackers, TE’s, o-lines, legendary coaches, 100k crowd sizes and historical venues.

I’ll never get why the unstable Big 12 with ten teams (8 of which are glorified Group of 5 teams) follows around the SEC trying to fit in. Be proud of your little conference and try supporting it.

Then how do you know they’re shitty? Hate drives views and you know you can’t look away.

But for real, why are the sips on an SEC website? Not making fun, seriously wondering.

Does the Big 12 not have a website of their own? And if the Big 12 does have a website, are there any SEC fans on it?

And I make fun of them for it constantly even though it's no where near as bad as some of the ones you listed.

I for one think 2003 USC has a legitimate claim to the national championship. This isn't me trolling either. They were ranked #1 in both the AP and the Coaches Poll going into the bowl season and yet were ranked #3 in the BCS. Oklahoma was still ranked #1 in the BCS despite getting annihilated in the Big 12 Championship Game and being ranked #3 in both major polls. The only reason the Trojans finished #2 in the Coaches Poll behind LSU is because those coaches were contractually obligated to give all of their first place votes to the winner of the championship game. Even then...some coaches still gave their #1 votes to USC, in defiance of that contract.

As far as I'm concerned, the two best teams at the end of the season (USC and LSU) didn't get to play each other, so the the title remains rightfully split.

The BCS was the agreed upon format for deciding national championships. Both polls were part of the formula at that time IIRC.

LSU is the only legitimate national champion in 2003 as decided on the field as agreed upon.

Furthermore, given the history of how long USC was a major player that helped prevent #1 and #2 from playing, I really have no sympathy for them.

As I said, I opened enough of them to learn not to open them anymore. So I don't.

And I don't know whose leg you think you are pulling. You aren't upset that someone from the Big12 is posting, you're just upset because you got reminded that A&M went and claimed a bunch of bullshite championships.

The AP broke away from the BCS after Oklahoma was #3 in both human polls but #1 in the BCS.

Prior to that season, none of the BCS Champions were disputed since all were unbeaten.

The Associated Press didn't agree to that format. They agreed to have their poll included in the formulas, but they didn't physically sign a contract saying they would honor the BCS champion as its national champion. Hence why they voted USC #1 in 2003. The AP predates the Coaches Poll and the BCS and is thus more prestigious.

Sorry, but as an LSU fan even I can admit we have no claim to 2011

I am not claiming 2011. That is Wikipedia. I literally copied and pasted it over. Don’t get it mixed up. I definitely don’t believe we have a claim to 2011. Now Georgia in 2017 on the other hand, has a legit argument. They lost on a fluke play in OT to a bama team that didn’t even win their division. Had LSU lost in 2011 in similar fashion, I would be claiming 2011. We got owned in Nola that night. No question.

Who the frick cares what the AP agrees to? The schools themselves are the ones who agreed to it.

And the reason why Oklahoma was #1 in the BCS is because the computers actually gave a crap about SoS and didn't place bias towards a loss at the end of the year over a loss earlier in the year.

Meaning, if Oklahoma had lost when USC lost, and vice versa, the stupid human polls would have ranked Oklahoma higher than USC because most of them lack the ability to actually take the entire season into account.

So in a nutshell, the computers were right and the human polls were biased. The entire reason the computers were included to start with.

I couldn't care less what the schools agreed to. The AP had been used as THE championship selector since 1936. They were named #1 by the AP in 2003, the NCAA recognizes their claim, and they went with LSU to meet Bush at the White House. Their claim is as legitimate as any that has ever been made.

A team that gets routed 35-7 in a championship game by a team ranked outside the Top 10 doesn't belong in another championship game four weeks later. It would be different if the game had been a nailbiter decided on a last second field goal or Hail Mary. Oklahoma got ran out of the stadium. To say the human polls were the ones with the bias is freaking asinine.

I already know more about the topic than you do, I just wanted to see LSU fans claim the NCF as their selector.

In 1981 the same selector had...5 teams ranked #1. Clemson, Nebraska, Pitt, SMU and Texas. The best part about that? Undefeated Clemson(12-0 and the one all the other polls had #1) beat 9-3 Nebraska in a bowl game, and STILL these dumbasses list Nebraska as a national champion. SMU was on probation and not even eligible for bowl games that year.

It's just some New York idiot named Mike Riter who did it all in 1980.

Many years they selected 4 or more national champions and it's the same stupid shite every time. Hell, even in 1908 LSU wasn't the only team they had "#1".

If LSU claims it, I will forever laugh in your face.

So you don't understand that bowl games use to be considered exhibition games and that national champions were decided before the bowl games?

Did you know that Notre Dame wouldn't even play in bowl games until they changed it?

So please cry more about Alabama's legitimate national championship while you claim your "shared" 1908 title from Mike Riter.
