Definitely 03 LSU. Like Santa said, their DL was nasty, and completely unstoppable at times.

LSU Dline was better at getting to the quarter back, but Bama's line was immovable and you could not run on them when Cody was healthy. Bama had Dareus, Upshaw, and Hightower who were all good rushers too.

I think LSU secondary was more talented, but Bama's was better in coverage and better had ball skills.

Landry was terrible in coverage while Barron was not great in coverage he was decent and had 7 picks while Kareem and Arenas were high level players also.

Its a push, but Bama's versatility and ability to create turnovers would win out.

LAvalais Hill and Spears were one of the best DL in college football. Would be an epic game and very low scoring

Dumbass needs to learn what backdooring your way in means.

LSU DID backdoor their way in. Just watch from the 4:45 mark of this video I made. LINK

LSU was behind USC and Oklahoma in the polls, the computers, strength of schedule, everything except for quality win component. It's pretty laughable how people actually prefer the old BCS formula to the new one.

LSU backdoored in 2007.

LSU won 7 games in a row in 2003.

That link didn't tell us anything fwiw.

TCU Fan complaining about backdooring... thats the only way TCU would ever get into any championship game, even after moving to the big east...and as far as LSU in 03... we deserved it more than anyone... LSU had 1 loss, USC had 1 loss, LSU played more ranked teams than USC and USC played in a pac 10 that isnt like the pac 10 of today. they might as well been playing in the mountain west. LSU would have beaten USC that year anyway.

huh isnt that funny. Anyone can win against horrible opponents. LSU would have won the 03 NC... it didnt matter who they played.

2009 Alabama was better statistically against SEC competition

Not sure about that statement on stats.
points per game goes to LSU for the season and were at 11.2 in the conference. Gave up 8 less points total for the SEC season.
I am going to say it was extremely difficult to score on that team - ask OU who was whipping people that year with White at QB.

LSU was on the outside looking in before that loss...everybody knows that.

The advantage that year was the fact that the SEC had/has a conference championship game.

LSU whooped up on Georgia who the #11 team in the nation at the same time USC beat up on Oregon St. who was 7-5 that season.

FYI... USC played 1 ranked team that whole regular season.

You know little of the 2003 season by your post. I posted to the USC board on Nov 3, 2003 that if LSU won out and USC won out, the math had LSU in the Championship game.

When LSU won the SEC Championship game I posted to the USC 1 minute after the win, LSU was going to the National Championship game; it is all in the math of the system at the time.

Oklahoma should have never gone to the game after losing to Kansas, but the system was about the whole season at the time and they had the points over every team. that was because the Big 12 at the time was rated higher than the Pac 10 and SEC.

Was it right that Oklahoma's strenght of schedule was rated higher than LSU or USC?

No, because clearly LSU played the harder schedule than OU, but the Pac 10 was weak and USC caked walked into a 12-1 season losing only to Cal. Ask the Arizona team of 2003 who was the better team, LSU or USC; because to a man that all said LSU.

Common opponents of LSU and USC:
Auburn
USC beat 23-0
LSU beat 31-7
Arizona
USC beat 45-0
LSU beat 59-13

In both games Pete is playing his starters even to the end.

yeah Marquise Hill, Marcus Spears, Kyle Williams and Chad Lavalais was a weak pass rushing d line. They wish they had Cody's fat rolls.

At the end of the season Bama's Defense was playing as a unit as good as any I've ever seen.LSUs Defense was great as well.Lot's of future NFL players on both sides.Almost enough to create an 11 man Defense that could play with anyone.

As far as LSU's "backing their way in".At the end of the day they don't ask how, just how many.I believe a Great Coach used to say that.

Bama 10.8 points allowed per game over 9 SEC games

Lsu 11.4 points allowed per game over 9 SEC games

Bama 164 points allowed total on the season

Lsu 154 points allowed total on the season

Less than 1 pt a game difference both ways allowed on the season. Both were pretty damn awesome. Bama fans will always take theirs, Lsu fans will always take theirs and other fans will take the one from the team they hate the less.

The 2009 team since they didn't lose a game and have to backdoor their way into the championship.

Is cheating (see Blue Tuna Tiger thread) > "back-dooring?" Does it piss you off when people try to diminish your NC when they bring it up?

'03? Not so much -- '07 LSU is a better example.

OP: should be answered by non-LSU/gump fans.
