Which Defense was better?

Yes, it's that point of the offseason.

The 2009 team since they didn't lose a game and have to backdoor their way into the championship.

You guys needed Oklahoma to lose the Big 12 Championship to get in the Big Game.

You do know about 6+ teams losing allowed Auburn to back-door themselves into the title game in '10 right?

False. Oklahoma stayed #1 in the BCS even after losing to KState.

LSU was on the outside looking in before that loss...everybody knows that.

I guess all teams who are ranked #2 going into the championship "backdoored" their way in. Whatever helps you guys sleep at night.

So..It was Oklahoma and USC BEFORE Oklahoma lost.

After Oklahoma lost, it was Oklahoma and LSU?

Not true. There was a difference of opinion between people as to who, LSU or USC, would play OU in the title game, but LSU was ahead of USC in the BCS formula.

OU backdoored in, despite their loss.

What "everyone knew" was that it should have been LSU vs. USC in the title game.

OK. It's been seven years. I watched the 2003 SEC Championship game recently. I watched their game against Oklahoma numerous times over the years. Here are my thoughts. Comparing unit by unit:

LSU's DL >> Alabama's DL
Alabama's LBs >> LSU's LBs
Alabama's DBs = LSU's DBs

2009 Alabama was better statistically against SEC competition and they played against a far tougher overall schedule. However at their best, the 2003 LSU defense was just unbelievable and capable of playing at a historically great level, maybe the best ever. Although they blitzed quite a bit, '03 LSU was much, much more effective at applying pressure to the QB with their defensive front than Alabama was. I just think they're a better playmaking unit in general. Now if the two teams played against one another, I predict '09 Alabama would win for one reason. Leigh Tiffin >>>>>>>> Chris Jackson and Ryan Gaudet. In a game between two evenly matched, defensive oriented teams, there's a good chance it'll come down to FG kickers and well, Chris Jackson and Ryan Gaudet were terrible while Leigh Tiffin is a very, very good kicker.

DL - LSU
LBs - Bama
DBs - Push

Overall I would give LSU's 2003 defense a slight edge. Mostly because when their DL was really bringing it no one had a chance.

A healthy Hightower(he lined up with his hand in the dirt alot when Ro was there) and it's a push probably.

No question about that

Landry and webster disagree

That's two NFL starters and two Pro Bowlers.
