I would think that he was holding a player accountable for a dumbass decision.

The truth is people judge a statement like that in light of how successful the coach is in general. If it is a highly successful coach like a Spurrier or Saban then they are just truth telling (even if throwing their player under the bus). If it is a less successful coach like a BB or a Muschamp (last year) then they are losing control of the team and their emotions

I would think Josh Booty was a bum. Those California cops who beat him up when he was drunk should have gotten a commendation and a raise.

QB after throwing pick, "Coach, I'm sorry"
Spurrier to QB, "I am too, Im sorry I ever recruited your arse"

I'd say that's the kind of coach I'd like to leave that team and end up with mine. Sounds like a champion to me.

Well he did bench the leading Heisman candidate one year and never let him back on the field. I could see Steve saying that during one of his tantrums.

No problem with it. I'd be pissed if my HC did have that play in the playbook.

I'd start a war with Canada if I found this to be true.

After throwing a pick 6 with a few minutes left in the game that cost the team the win:

"That play was not in the playbook. I have no idea where he got the idea to throw that pass. It sure wasnt from the coaches"

So, what would you think of your coach?

Really depends on a lot of things but that quote sounds like Dooley even though it probably isn't. He constantly threw players under the bus and did so in a way that came across badly - like everything else he ever said.

I would think he was drunk.....or crazy.

Any D1 coach that would put me into a game at QB would have to be drunk.....or crazy.
