Wouldn't it just be cheaper to pay the fee to get out of your contract with DirecTV, rather than have two cable bills?

I don't know...obviously I'll pick the option that costs me less when August rolls around. :D

Currently, DirecTV does not have a digital carriage agreement. Meaning, if you are a DirecTV customer and download the WatchESPN app, you will not be authenticated. Check the app right now (if you have it installed on your device). In the section where you select your content provider, DirecTV (nor Dish) is not listed. Again, this is because DirecTV and ESPN have not been able to negotiate a carriage deal.

yea I don't see directv getting the sec network

The fee to drop contract is $20/month. That's your best deal.

At some point, DIRECTV will renegotiate its carriage agreements with Disney (who owns ESPN) and it's likely that one side or the other will insist that WatchESPN be included. No doubt about it: ESPN is telling carriers “you want the SEC Network, you must authenticate WatchESPN.” DIRECTV pays to Disney more than some pay-TV companies pay to EVERY content provider combined. It's estimated that up to 25% of the average user's DIRECTV bill already goes straight to Disney, and that's huge.

they damn well should pay more to Disney than they do to anyone else.

I'm willing to bet most people would drop cable if they lost ESPN and the other Disney owned networks from their package.

Its really that important to the providers.

Yet you have the nerve to call others ignorant. Tell me, is netflix illegal? Is amazon prime?

Maybe Mr. Scholar isn't as "versed" in all things "SEC TV" as he want's the beloved SECRANT community to believe.

It's reported that the SEC Network is asking distributors within the 11 state SEC footprint approximately $1.30 per subscriber.

If the SEC does get that who ever leads the negotiations needs a raise. I believe that would make it the second most expensive network for cable/satellite companies in those states.

There are close to 32 million cable TV/satellite TV homes in the eleven state SEC footprint. With a $1.30 sub fee, the SEC Network is poised to collect 41 million per month from cable and satellite customers in those 11 states. That adds up to close to half a billion per year. That’s about $150 million more than Fox currently collects for Fox Sports 1, which is in 90 million homes.

Again, this doesn't factor in digital media.

How many months left on contract? What was your positioning on the cancellation?

I had 6 months left. I had a DVR box crap out twice, they never got the whole house DVR working on all TVs, the "burried" cable running from the satellite stand is pretty much sitting on top of the ground, then the whole TWC saga. Small claims file would be $35, so it was worth a shot. It would have only been $120, but it was the principal of the matter.
