If we make it in the tournament, Avery will keep his job.

Probably for another 2-3 years minimum. Arkansas please save us.

Avery is a good coach. If he gets back2back tourney appearances he deserves an extension.

What's Avery's problem? Coaching? Recruiting? Other?
Posted on 3/7/19 at 9:24 am to DinosaursAreReal
And if you don’t he will also keep his job

He's keeping his job anyway.

Coaching.
With the talent he brings in, 17-13 every year in early March while hoping for a weak bubble just doesn’t cut it.

Yes, but I think he only gets one more year if we don’t make it whereas he’ll get 2 or 3 if he does.

I mean, his talent has been a bit overstated. We've basically moved from quick twitch athletes who can't shoot to some less athletic guys who are better shooters. We're certainly not recruiting at a Kentucky/Florida or now LSU level.
We should be better than this, though.

I don't think Byrne thinks that way.

Who would Alabama get otherwise ? We saw the problems they had last time and things from a facility standpoint haven't improved. You either do what UT and MSU did and get a coach at the end of his career or you get another "Fruit of the Month Club" member. Avery has proven he can recruit, so why would you kill the only positive of the program ?

I hate it, but I think you’re right.
Byrne is likely waiting for the $100 million upgrade to the arena to see if that helps Avery at all. If he’s bringing in top 25 classes with what we have, maybe he’ll bring in top 5 classes with the renovations.
He still can’t coach though.

Bama is a terrible basketball program. Making the tourney is the ceiling. Not sure what you guys are expecting.

So was Auburn, then they got a new stadium and Bruce Pearl.
Anything can happen to a program with a good coach and support. Look at Clemson in football.

Yeah Auburn is the sec doormat historically.

Just such a silly question given what other schools historically equal to or below Alabama have done with coaching hires in the last 5-7 years.

The problem with Coleman is they are putting lipstick (expensive) on a pig. In the long run they would have saved money by building a new arena.
