Texas and Oklahoma or North Carolina and Virginia.

Penn State is the easy answer for me. They have SEC level fan support, ENORMOUS (maybe biggest?) alumni base in the population/media dense Northeast, and its a good school with a storied program.

Yes, they have a black eye, but that will pass and maybe we could get em for cheap...

I'd never seen that. I guess it doesn't get much air time in Mississippi. That's just about perfect - thanks for the link.

Peen St. & Notre Dame, but ND would not except because of the tough SEC schedule.

If Texas doesn't count as southern, then this is my list

1. Texas
2. Oklahoma
3. Kansas

Those are good suggestions, accept I don't think Penn State would really be that great

Just cause they made the right choice doesn't make them not Southern...

Based on the map then you mean North Dakota is Southern? Virginiua and the Carolinas are southern. Penn State is rural and has the SEC one track mind for football. Other baggage of course not to mention geography. As pompous and self centered as Bama.

I'm hoping somebody can straighten me out on the procedures. What is the process for inviting new schools? I assume there's a vote, right? If so, is a unanimous vote required? If it is, there's no way Texas ever gets in as at least 3 schools would vote NO forever and always.

Oklahoma would bring a fine AD and pretty close to 0 TV sets. Plus I don't think they can do anything without bringing OSU along - ditto for the OU pros/cons, plus bad academics.

Kansas: eh, I get it. Basketball.

I'd much rather see truly southern teams get in, say UVA or VaTech and UNC.

Edit: And yeah I see I'm a dumbass and ignored the OP's question. I'd still like to know about the invite process, though.

I agree NC and most of VA are southern. I disagree with the premise of the thread though that we would need to add a non southern school and just put what I wanted.

I can't speak for Texas, but having lived in Oklahoma, it is more similar to southern states than not
