Texas - Oklahoma will never cease. We are joined at the hip. As much as I'd hate to see it, we may have to drop arkansas as an annual game. It's a great rivalry but just can't touch the aggie and sooner game.

Nope. Texas will play OU as their permanent opponent.

We need to fight to keep both Oklahoma and Texas A&M. I've said it a million times but will again. The rivalry with the ags is every bit as important as the one with oklahoma. It hasn't historically meant as much nationally in the rankings but, for the state, it's incredibly important.

Aggies would definitely prefer Arkansas or LSU as their one permanent rival

his also gives a 9 game schedule.

If we go to a 9 game schedule we don't need to do anything as complicated as you've listed. Just have 3 permanent opponents and rotate the other 6.

6 permanent opponents is WAY too many.

I think if they stay at eight they will do what the big 10 did and have some teams have 1, 2, or even 3 (texas) permanent rivalries and some maybe have none.

The idea of everybody playing everybody every four years home and away goes away but that is not as important as keeping rivalries, which matters more to fans and espn.

You could still make sure you play every team at least once every three years.

This is most likely what would happen.

WHY would you NOT play the other teams the same amount?
That’s not balanced either.

Because it's the exact same methodology as the 3-6 that is coming sooner than later.. but it allows us to use the format with just 8 games.

Perm - 3 Teams (same in both formats)

2 Year Rotation - 6 Teams (same in both formats)

3 Year Rotation - 6 Teams (play 2x every 6 years instead of 3x)

Play nine games rotate the other 8 every four years.

SO freeking what if Tenn/Bama plays 2 times every 4 years.

Easy solution.

Alabama vs Auburn
Florida vs Georgia
Ole Miss vs Miss State
Tennessee vs Vanderbilt
Kentucky vs South Carolina
LSU vs Arkansas
Oklahoma vs Missouri
Texas vs Texas A&M

* Texas & Oklahoma schedule the game OOC when not on the schedule. (2x every 4 years)

Other teams can follow our lead, if they choose. (Alabama vs Tennessee, Auburn vs Georgia, etc)

But I would like at least 2 perm opponents in an 8 game schedule.. preferably 3.

Either way, a 9 game schedule is coming and this conversation won't matter. If ABC won't pay for it, we can suck it up until the contract is over, because that next contract is going to be ginormous if the ratings continue like that have been.. SEC > B1G and it isn't close right now.

We’re on the precipice of Indiana at 11-1 with no quality wins getting in the playoff

So a 1 loss Indiana team who loses to Ohio State is worse than a 1 loss Texas team who lost to UGA and struggled vs State, Vandy, & Arkansas?

A 1 loss Big Ten school deserves to be in over a 2 loss SEC school. Especially this year. Every single 2 loss SEC team has a bad loss on their resume.

Every single one of them.

We all bitch about blue bloods and the same teams getting picked over and over when they have worse records.

But then we bitch about teams with less history of success from other major conferences with better records getting in over those same SEC blue bloods that couldn’t win important games on their schedules.

If you’re from a major conference and your record is better, you should get in over a team whose record is worse. Period.

History shouldn’t matter. The team that’s fielded today should be judged on how it did this season. It shouldn’t be penalized because past teams from that school sucked.

Saturday college football games on ABC are averaging 5.69 million viewers across 36 windows so far this season. Comparatively, Fox is averaging 3.05 million viewers across 30 windows (through Week 11), CBS is averaging 3.20 million viewers across 12 windows (through Week 11), and NBC is averaging 3.11 million viewers across 15 windows (through Week 11).

As for the premier windows for each network, ABC’s marquee primetime window is averaging 7.25 million viewers through Week 12. Fox’s Big Noon clocks in at 4.77 million viewers, CBS’s 3:30 p.m. ET window is averaging 3.64 million viewers for the nine games where viewership data is publicly available, and NBC’s Big Ten game (usually 7:30 p.m. ET) is averaging 3.36 million viewers.

ABC’s performance with its new SEC package has been nothing short of dominant this season. With only two more weeks left in the regular season, it looks almost certain that ABC’s primetime window will dethrone Fox’s Big Noon as college football’s most-watched in 2024.

Nope and it's the reason we probably don't have to worry about historical rivalries being gutted. They draw too much attention.

the hell are you talking about? Our two losses have both been on the road to top 10 teams. We currently have 3 wins over teams that are exponentially better than anyone Indiana has even played against.

A 10-2 UGA, wiht our schedule what it is, unequivocally abslutely without a shadow of any doubt whatsoever deserves to be ranked above an 11-1 indiana.

the mouse wants a full rotation every 4 years as do most of the schools/coaches.

I don't see LSU-Bama going away due to high ratings (this year's contest being an outlier)

But does a 9 game schedule NOT eliminate must play games/rivalries EVERY year (not as “whenever” games)?

Nah, give Auburn to UGA and give us Tennessee. UK to Vandy and UF to LSU.

That is dumb. While it keeps rivalries for those that have them, it DOESN’T have a balanced rotation #.
Say you have 3 perm you play each year. You would only have 5 slots to play the other 12 teams…taking ~2.5 years to see the conference JUST ONCE! Compare that to a team with 1 perm could do H/A with everybody in just over 4years.

So, it boils down to YES or NO to perms & keep everybody the same.
