If Saban coached UGA the previous 5 years, how many titles would Georgia have?

We all agree that Nick Saban is the greatest college football coach ever. Saban’s ability to manage a roster full of 5 stars and coach them up is borderline unbelievable.

I think Saban would have won at least 3 titles (including this year) if he coached the talent that UGA had the previous 5 years.

Is the main difference between Saban and Smart the ability for Nick to make adjustments both philosophically for the entire team and during games when things breakdown? In two games against UGA, Nick made the bold decision to change quarterbacks because things weren’t working out. Saban made the correct call both times and it paid off with 2 titles.

What is preventing Kirby from making those same adjustments? How is Nick able to manage QBs and Smart falls flat every year?

I “hope” to see a future where every time UGA wins a big game, “1980” could no longer used.

Probably the correct answer. I’m not sure any amount of coaching would have beaten that LSU. The talent level was unfathima, unfathathuma…..it was without fathom.

9, somehow. That’s the power of Saban.

Great take! Thank you!

I was looking for a possible answer to what Saban has that Kirby doesn’t when it comes to coaching.

He’s the best. UGA would probably have at least 4

We could start with 20 more years of HC experience or the fact that Saban has been coaching college football in some capacity since before Kirby was born…

You are right. Saban didn’t start out as the GOAT. It took time and experience. Kirby seems to be on track to
be one of the best college coaches to ever walk the sidelines. He isn’t even 50 yet and look what he has already accomplished. The future is bright at UGA

Maybe 1. Saban is not any better if a game day coach than Kirby. Saban would have the same problem Kirby has had at UGA, lack of QB play. It will cost Kirby again.

He would have won 3 and 4th this year. LSU still had 2019 locked.

0. He’d be 0-4 against Smart and Bama.

He certainly had advantages at his first HC position Saban didn’t. Saban is the GOAT.

Kirby has one of the most amazing starts to a college coaching career ever. 2-1 in CFP games. Won a Rose, Sugar, Orange, Peach Bowl. Winning record over top 10 teams. 3 seasons with 12 or more wins.

None of that guarantees he ever wins it all, but he’s already done everything but that.

Things I buy: "Saban would have made the offense more pass heavy and high scoring and that probably wins a ship, maybe two, that Kirby wouldn't have."

I can agree with that kind of thinking.

Things I don't buy: "Saban would've played Fields over Fromm, recognizing the vast talent difference and suffering some early nailbiters in order to have the better team at the end."

Fromm would've been the starting QB under Saban just like he was under Kirby. People often try to bring up how he went with Tua in the title game.

Tua had looked awful for two and a half games prior to that when he made that decision. And there were staff members wanting him to make that move (based on practices) long before he did it. Hurts was down 13-0 at the half and had not moved the offense a lick. Fromm never had a three game stretch that bad up to Fields leaving.

Quit dickriding other teams coaches and enjoy the year UGA is having. Put a big A (for a-hole) by your name if you want to talk up that assbag.
