I still think Penn State and Texas were the two college programs that contacted Nick Saban in January.

i have no doubt PSU had the cash, you know i'd know, i was saying Richt wouldn't leave though. not even because it is PSU. UGA is his #1 and only priority.

i think if UGA had fired him UNC, PSU, Ole Miss, A&M, and co would have gone after him hard and Clemson may have even fired Dabo to get him. I even think he'd do well outside the ACC, very well in fact. but had he been fired i'd guarantee he'd just retire and go into missions with Kathryn. he wants to be a lifer at Georgia and then retire here, i just can't see him going anywhere ever.

Why I asked what the OP knew about Penn State was graduating players and only winning nine games a year is the kinda coach we would want and had since the last national championship in 1986.
I have no idea how Richt's academic record is but at Penn State winning in the classroom is as important as winning on the feild, providing he could stay true to that vision under another set of circumstances based on being a "good guy" PSU would have broke the bank for Richt

No disrespect to Nick Saban or Mark Richt Penn State could not make a splash hire 90 days after the Sandusky bomb was dropped.

i don't think mark richt would be any less effective than Joe Pa when it comes to any of that. i personally think Mark Richt is the best hire PSU could have made maybe sans Patty Fitz and not because of his ability or PSU's ceiling but because he is a good coach and what all he offers outside of football would be more than enough for the PSUs masses thump their chests.

i know how that fan base works, they'd love bragging about their moral crusader vs the new guys in the big 10 just as much as UGA fans do

I wanted Al Golden but that may be because he is homegrown. Excatly Richt's good deeds would play well in Happy Valley.
