The real shake up may come in a few years after Saban leaves if Alabama bungles the hire and Auburn’s Harsin hire ends up being a bust.

That is when the opening would come for Ole Miss and Arkansas to jump up a rung or two. I think they have good hires to make that jump but will they be able to outlast Saban to do it?

I still think LSU...with them winning the west when things line up. I like what TAMU is doing but at some point you have to win the West to be considered a big boy program.

A&M has much better resources, they just have to translate that to consistent performance.

I think they are only a QB away from being an elite program right now.

Yeah, that is the other thing too: clearly Aggy is closer to jumping to the top of the division in one season than anyone below them on the ladder.

The problem they have is the likelihood that they need to beat both Alabama and LSU in a given year to make that jump. They, too, probably need Alabama or LSU to fall off.

Saban will be 70 this season, would you bet that Lane will be at Ole Miss longer than Saban?

Nope. I think Lane would leave for these teams that could have openings within 2 years:
Michigan
Nebraska
FSU
VT
Miami
Auburn
LSU
Georgia (i don’t know why GA fans are starting to get impatient with Kirby, great coach)
OU (their coach is going NFL at some point)
Oregon

Until elite defensive recruits start flocking to Ole Miss, they will continue to be middle of the pack in the West

A&M has beaten LSU 2 of the 3 games since Fisher has been there.

Kiffin turned down even the offer to interview at Auburn

I think the more realistic question is, can Kiffin be Huge Freeze good?

If he ever climbs to that status other teams will come a calling offering better assets and he gone.

Lane will get the wanderlust sooner rather than later. I'm also not sold on Lane's ability to maintain a program. Before people get a case of the vapors about that statement I admit I'm not sold, though I'm hopeful, about Pittman's ability to do the same.

It is one thing to come in and do well with talent, it is another thing to keep the program at that level or improve it year by year.

He did write “may soon” instead of “shall soon” , so its probably not going to happen.
