And you forgot the location.

Why would they break up into pods, more than likely they would just do away with cross divisional games and keep the current format.
You actually get a better schedule with 4 four-team divisions:
3 games against your division opponents
3 games against the three teams in the other division that finished relative to your school's finish
2 games divided among the remaining 9 schools (this is where you can factor in a permanent cross-division rivalry if both schools in that rivalry so choose)
So, assuming a north carolina and a virginia school are the next two:
Division: Arkansas, LSU, Missouri, Texas A&M
Division: Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi, Mississippi State
Division: Kentucky, Tennessee, (VA school), Vanderbilt
Division: Florida, Georgia, (NC School), South Carolina
Permanent Cross-Division: Auburn/Georgia, Alabama/Tennessee

You also forgot to change your avatar to Beamer or a lunch pail.
Plus my interwebs location never changes.

1
Alabama
Auburn
Arkansas
Missouri
2
South Carolina
Texas A&M
Kentucky
VT
3
UGA
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
UNC
4
LSU
Florida
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
And of course, 9 games. You play your division every year, switch with another division every 2, and have permanent opponents in each division you play every year.
So UGA could still play Auburn, South Carolina, and Florida every year.
Alabama can still play Tennessee every year.

Also no one lives in Blacksburg except Students and University employees.

frick that noise Auburn has no business playing Arkansas and Missouri every year.
All these away games that basically require plane rides are bullshite.
The Big 6 should have to play each other every year imo

Yall would still get South Carolina, UGA, and Florida every year.
Just trying to allocate it by keep teams from having weak arse schedules.

I like this alot, it seems very balanced and pretty good geographically.
The only problem is I don't know how to work out permanent cross divisional rivalry game as we need both Auburn/UGA and UGA/UF.

Can't do that. You have to group the 4-team divisions by vicinity first.

Ummm...No way in hades will Bama be in the same pod as Mizzou. The REC will make darn sure of that.

That's brutally simple:
1. You play the teams in the other divisions that finished the same relative to their division. (1st place plays 1st place, 2nd plays 2nd, etc.)
2. After the 3 inter-division games and 3 inter-place games have been determined, you have 2 conference games left. If the permanents haven't already been assigned, that's where they come in.

Why, it is not like football can't handle a large traveling budget.

Why not? Since there are no 4 division conferences out there right now, there are no rules.
Plus, you still have a permanent opponent in each other division that for the most part will be close by and keep rivalries going.
My divisions also allow for the best possible matchups in SEC championship games. Last years was good, but everyone knows in 2011 it would have been better if it would have been LSU vs Bama.

"balance" will change year to year, but vicinity doesn't.

Wait, I though the REC would love Bama having the easiest division?

If you go to a 9 conference game schedule, then you would have a cross-pod game from each pod. So UGA could still have auburn from the Delta pod, and UF from the Atlantic pod.
