The first coming after former coach Houston Nutt was found bound naked to a tree with a pair of golden handcuffs on campus.

Nutt and recruiting don't go together as that means work which is his kryptonite. The 2000 class was the worst in Arkansas history and he is responsible for the current SEC limit on players signed in a recruiting class. If Matt Jones didn't step on campus back in 2001 then Nutt gets fired in 2003.
I didn't want the lazy smartass either as he kept opening his mouth a bout brag this and brag that. Then the 0-8 in the SEC happened and finally crickets. It was a lazy hire by Long as Bert never fit in here and he was an alcoholic that needed rehab. His alcoholism is what doomed him here. It also didn't help that he was by himself without his mentor as a head coach and his work ethic was polar opposite to Petrino.
I wanted Mike Gundy at that time as he might have been interested in leaving Oklahoma State.
