So you should not retire when you are like 74?
One who can absolutely should.
And then shut the frick up about how it should be done. Nick Saban is - at his core - a typical Boomer.
Go off into the sunset. Drive Miss Terry around on a boat. And just stop telling everyone how it should be done. How they should do it.
You made your money. Go away.

Ok, Saban being 74 when he retired with nothing left to prove had nothing to do with it either eh?

Good. I hope his voice carries some weight on the topic if it'll help alleviate some the chaos and hopefully create a structure with sensible rules and guidelines.
Having player hop around from school to school every year is insane. There should be a contract that guarantees at least 2 years of commitment with strictly limited ways to break it.

The video is saw, he was talking about putting the emphasis back on graduating.
As for “NIL” , most coaches and administrators nationwide know it’s just pay for play, but sure, the pay for play is driving the transfer portal, which is impacting the actual progress to an education and degree.

Pretty retarded take. People in an industry retire from one job and then take part time jobs or consulting positions elsewhere in that industry all the time. Not wanting to spent 80-100 hours a week being a head coach doesn't suddenly disqualify you from giving your opinion when a lot of important people in the industry want your help. He is doing that he wants to do, how he thinks he should do it. Not the way some whiney bitch on a message board thinks he should do it. But let us know when the powers that be of college football come knocking on your door for your opinion about college football.

Its pretty obvious.
Those who love them some "student athletes" just love to see those pads slappin' on Saturdays. And all those grand seats and posh stadiums and big brass bands just add to it.
And that high paid coach ? Well, that's just a point of pride. As well as the lux dorms that no scrub student can stay in.
But Hey. Don't let me harsh your mellow. Those are just well paid, better than ever "student-athletes" that just happen to transfer every year.
Ought to bring 'em all to midfield and start a spelling bee.

Do athletes have any less of an opportunity to get a degree now vs. before NIL and the portal? Not at all.
If the school jumping fricks with your degree track, then when your eligibility is up (if the NFL doesn’t call) settle down and finish your degree with seven figures in the bank while still in your early/mid twenties.
I can think of worse situations.
Players have a lot of opportunities today. It’s up to them what they do with them. Some will do well and others will frick up. In what arena of life is that not the case?

What you describe is semi-pro ball. So lets just call it that.
And divorce all this shite from any idea of higher education. Which will be the end of a big bunch of baws here that luv their local college. Even though they only drive past their local college.
I'm all for it. Lets call it what it is. Semi-Pro Ball.

It isn’t about opportunity. It’s about the reality of it all. When a student (snicker) transfers, often all of his subject credits don’t qualify for the degree (guffaw) he is pursuing (I’m cracking up here) at the next school. Not long ago the player had to be progressing to his degree to supposedly stay eligible. That’s a joke of gigantic proportion now even moreso than ever. Most of these players probably don’t read or math at a high school senior level. “Student athlete “ is a fkn joke

Damn. You must be very old to have lived through that era. No wonder you’re so bitter.

Yes, the playing field opportunity and rules more even. Some may argue otherwise.
Of course it had nothing to do with him being 72 years old, I'm sure.

It’s the player’s responsibility to figure all that out. They’re adults.

Of course.
Higher education, win-at-all-costs athletics, and billions of dollars create a clusterfrick.
