didn't look that bad this weekend at calling balls and strikes.
Will admit that I was wrong on a lot high in the zone myself and that seems to be where most of the ump misses came from.
I didn't watch every game, but of the challenges, didn't see any egregious misses.

This exactly. When watching games I think many of the strikes and balls are called wrong, then when they show where it actually was, the umpires are usually correct. It amazes me how accurate umpires are, and when a catcher challenges he is correct more often than not.
It just goes to show that all of the fans who sit at home and criticize umpiring are basing their complaints based upon camera angle, which can skew things significantly. I suspect, quite often calls on the field in football is similar, although, umpires and referees are human and will, from time to time make mistakes.

Yes, umpires are human and will have an occasional bad day but, all in all, they do a much better job than the biased fan wants to believe.
To answer the OP, no, I don't think that they just decided to be better knowing ABS was in play.

Only criticism is that it was extremely charitable on the low strike.
The umps were simply excellent in Hoover. Yeah there were a lot of overturns but nothing absolutely outrageous. Lot of stuff a half inch to an inch off the plate.

Just getting rid of the chest bumping I'm in charge here arguments was worth it. It's faded the home plate umpire back into the background where he belongs.

The "chest bumping" is from arguing a call and ABS showed that batters aren't very good at judging.

of course, it's human nature. every one of us behaves differently when the boss is watching. it's also likely that the SEC put their best crews in Hoover, so naturally there would be fewer egregious calls than a random weekend during the season.
ABS was a huge success in the SECT, it should be used in every SEC stadium next season.

In all reality ai and cameras can take all the refs and umps out of the game and get rid of a lot of doubt. Too many teams get screwed by dudes who could possibly be on the take.

If that's the concern, you do know that the players could possibly be on the take as well.
