I saw this on another forum but thought it would make for good arguments. Who would be on your state's Mount Rushmore of sports?

Alabama's Four
Jesse Owens
Willie Mays
Hank Aaron
Joe Louis

I think Bo Jackson could be considered for a spot, possibly over Joe Louis. Although a lot of old timers/boxing enthusiasts would go nuts.

Before anybody asks, Arkansas gets the Bear and Joe Namath is from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

That's pretty damn tough.

I consider "Sweetness" the greatest RB ever in the NFL. I know I'll draw a lot of argument over that. That would give the crooked letter the greatest RB and WR of all time.

By the way, there is no way in hell Favre is the greatest QB of all time. I love him to death, but I wouldn't even put him in the top 5.

I don't think Archie and Malone are on par with any of the others.

Both were born in Alabama. Jesse Owens moved from the Courtland/Town Creek area when he was young to Ohio. I'm sure Ohio claims him.

I have no clue about Joe Louis. This from wikipedia.

Louis was born in La Fayette, Alabama, son of Barry Jerry Barrow, a sharecropper, and Lilly Louis.

Jesse Owens was born in Bama, but grew up in Cleveland (left when he was 7-8 I think). Same for Joe Louis. Born in Bama and moved to Detroit at a young age (thus Detroit calls him their own).

and Pete Maravich is not from LA. Born in PA. Went to high school in SC. He only went to LSU because his dad coached there. Pete always wanted to go to WV.

I listed YA Tittle and he is from Marshall, TX. That was my question - do they have to be from the state they played in? If not, you can cut 2 off of my list.

i think if they played at the state school you can count them.

i know Mia Hamm was born in Selma Al. and Selma claims her. Even though she only lived there for first six months of her life. she is from a Military family.

Yes, Ohio claims him, but Alabama does as well. There is a Jesse Owens park just off Highway 157 in/near Moulton.

Even if he's from Arkansas, I think I'd still give him to Bama. I don't think Arkansas would put him be on their Rushmore.

Mississippi has a few of the great football players of all time, but it has hardly any good to great basketball or baseball players.

Among the good football players:
Walter Payton
Jerry Rice
Brett Farve
LC Greenwood
Lance Alworth
Archie Manning
Charlie Connerly
Jackie Slater
Steve McNair
