Most unlikely champs sure.

We have the same SP+ metrics wise. They have the best FEI ever. I think our 2019 offense would be able to pick on their defense, we were just too talented. It would be a shoot out for sure though. We had the better offense but their defense is better.

Where did LSU rank overall in the SP+ rankings in 2019?

#2

FEI: #2
F+: #2
FPI: #2

Respectfully the fact that the national champion is not #1 in the FPI after beating the team which beat the #1 team in the FPI by 25 points tells me all I need to know about that metric. Also if you add up all of the power points from the top 30 teams LSU still has more power points played with one less game I might add.

2005 Texas is underrated. They never come up when people are discussing the greatest teams. Sagarin ratings had them as the #2 team behind only 1995 Nebraska post-WW2. The article and rankings/ratings was from December 26, 2019.

Top 5 post-WW2 from that article

1. 1995 Nebraska 127.27
2. 2005 Texas 116.28
3. 1971 Nebraska 116.26
4. 1971 Oklahoma 113.62
5. 2001 Miami 113.04

From a 2 star qb winning the heisman and his mom in the stands with MS. Cant write a better story on one of the greatest team of all time

Well they definitely managed to score more than three on Miami so that is impressive. Respect.

If they were the greatest team, why was it a 3 point game with 3 minutes left, to a 2 loss Miami? Everyone points to the 16-0, but 10 out of 16 wins were against unranked teams.

If they were the greatest team they should have been way up in the fourth, not desperately trying to prevent a late Miami TD which would have won the game with 40 seconds.

Greatest team? Please. Oldest team? Sure I'll give you that

Late 80’s IU grad and I recall many Saturdays in shitty weather, 25-30k crowds watching Lorenzo White and other RBs run up and down the field on Cam Cameron’s defense. Crappy stadium that only seats 50k (for a reason). Historically play lousy OOC schedule but it has worked out for them
Wonder if this natty will spur talk of stadium expansion or a new stadium. They might not want to rush into that

They never trailed in the playoff. In a 16-game season that's absurd. GOAT team, probably not. But they're pretty damn well up there.

Even if not the overall GOAT, they may be the most consistent team of all time.

you midnight yell cucks grasp at anything to make yourselves feel better and to disguise the fact that you have not done a single thing for this conference except gay it up since you joined. Please pull up the 2019 LSU roster and you will quickly realize how much of a tard you sound like. Surely, you are just trolling.

One of those is not like the other. 2019 LSU outgained Auburn by nearly double the yardage. 2019 Auburn also had 6 future NFL draft picks on defense, including 2 1st-round picks on the DL. Plus, the guy that just led his team to the AFC title game was Auburn’s QB. Indiana was outgained in total yardage, and Miami also had the ball with a chance to win. Auburn never had that opportunity. They were down 10 and scored late to make it a 3-point game.

Add 2007 UF, 2009 UF, 2020 Bama, 2022 UGA, 2024 OSU… Indiana accomplished some great things this year. They were the best team in the country. But they barely beat Iowa and PSU and had to have Beck lose the NCG for them to win. This is not an all timer. Just a somewhat down competition year compared to some past years. Hats still off to them.
