how come they didn't make all the coaches before him great?
Same reason Bear & Saban were your goats and nobody else came close.

Used to say that about Bobby Knight here - and it was true, in his prime. Then he got old, and stubborn, which happens.
I'll say it again - that Nick Saban could have all his success, then just modify that formula because it wasn't working, is the strangest thing I've ever seen in football. Nobody does that in his position - until him.

Got ten more years. If Brandon can run the country, Saban can run college football.

Then why didn't he?
Because he wasn't here long enough.
Quit being ignorant

Spooky. And here I always thought the Satan/Saban comparisons were just a play on words.
Did he make a deal with himself yesterday?

5 years..zero back to back 10 win seasons.
First 5 years at Bama?
7-6
12-2
14-0 NC
10-3
12-1 NC
Hmm..
What did his 5 years at LSU look like? I guess winning consistently is just easier at Alabama

Give me a break, he wins because he has the number 1 recruiting class almost every year.
How did he do in the NFL when he didn't always have better talent than the opponent?
The Sabans and Urbans dominate college football because they recruit better than everyone else.

The oatmeal creme pie is even a sneaky smart snack. Just enough flavor but also with some dietary fiber. If you can work at that level of competition and intensity, whatever the field, and avoid self-destructive behaviors then you have my respect. As my cortisol levels rise, I inevitably start self-destructing with fatty food, alcohol, whatever you got. Just cain’t hang, so I made the choice to live a long and healthy, if underwhelming, life. I’m in awe of physically healthy yet wildly successful and competitive people.

There's never been anyone like Saban and never will be again.

I think he'd be the first to tell you he'd have very little shot if he and Fickel traded rosters and went at it in a month.
What he's the best at:
1. Recruiting
2. Off season prep
3. Weekly prep
4. Getting his team to play near its ceiling every week (been more of a struggle this year than he's had since his first season at Bama)
5. Replacing staff
6. Realizing his limitations and knowing when he's got to change. (Sadly, probably the only thing on this list our coach has not learned well from him)

Only a Homer wouldn't think he'd have had the same success here as Bama.
I think the NFL made him a better evaluator. I would say if he had stayed at LSU and never left, probably not quite as good. If he had went back to LSU, just as good.

In my lifetime, that's probably right. Ever??.... I remember when I was a kid someone saying you'd never see a guy pitch and hit like Ruth did. That seemed like that would likely be impossible at the time. Not anymore.
