By that logic, we should do away with the committee.... Which I totally agree with. Play your way in, like the NFL

I hate the committee. Agree play your way in or get left out.

I think you leave them out and put Georgia in.

The irony of 12 teams will be teams 13 and 14.

If GA and Bama are better than Texas, either one of them should go in above Texas. Unfortunately, the committee is all about the most deserving and inclusion now.

We don’t really know if Bama is better than Texas is right now. We may think they are, but we don’t actually know.

We do know that Texas beat them in Tuscaloosa. If they finish with the same record and are both conference champs, that win has to mean something.

Otherwise why play the games. Just let the committee pick the 4 teams they want in the playoff in the preseason and ignore everything that actually happens in the field.

Agree with you actually. It's a beauty contest and wins don't matter as much as looking pretty while you do it. So ready for the expanded playoffs so these arguments are moot.

Let’s look at each option.

Alabama: they’d be a one loss SEC Champion with the best win of the season over an undefeated Georgia. But they still have that double digit home loss to Texas.

Texas: they’d be a one loss Big XII champion with arguably the second best win of the season, on the road no less, over SEC Champion Alabama. Their one loss is a respectable one in a very close game to their arch rival Oklahoma on a neutral field.

Georgia: they’d be a one loss SEC runner-up with their only loss being to one-loss SEC Champion Alabama on a supposed neutral field

So who should go? In my opinion, it should be Texas. They’d be a conference champion who had also beaten SEC Champion Alabama soundly in their own stadium.

I know Bama fans will balk at this. But the truth is Texas beating Alabama, as long as the Longhorns continue to win, only looks better and better the more Alabama wins. The sad truth, at least if you’re a Bama fan, is any continued success the Tide has between now and the final playoff selection, only serves to help bolster the Longhorn’s argument to get in over Bama.

Do you honestly think that any teams outside the expanded format are going to have a good argument to get in?

what impressive wins does Alabama have

In the OP’s scenario, Alabama will have beaten #1 Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. Not only would that be the best win any team has had so far this year, it would be the best win any team has had in the last two years.

Nope. Expanding playoffs is stupid. Four is too many.

That's a great argument but I also think our argument is pretty good as well in that scenario. To be honest I'm not worried at all about the playoffs right now I just want to get through the next two games. Whatever happens after that is out of our control.

Texas wins out and they are in over Bama no matter what. You can’t ignore the double digit win in Tuscaloosa. It’s impossible.

Well you can also argue that if Bama beating Georgia is that good (which it would be) then Texas beating the team that beat Georgia is even a better win.

There is no Hypothetical! Bama would have to beat UGA by 28 to sniff the 4th-5th spot. Even if bama wins the seccg they still won’t make the playoffs

That’s what Bama fans seem incapable, or unwilling, to acknowledge. As I stated above, the more Bama wins, the better the Longhorns double digit win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa looks.

The bottom line is Bama doesn’t control its own destiny. They can still get into the playoff, but they’ll need help. Specifically, in addition to beating Georgia, no small feat in and of itself; Bama also has to hope for either FSU or Texas to lose for the Tide to stand a chance at getting in.

You can also argue that the Alabama team of November 2023 is not the same Alabama team of September 2023. Likewise you can argue that the Texas team of September 2023 is also not the same as the Texas team of November 2023.

However, I don't think the Committee cares about that angle given how they've been ranking the teams for the last several weeks. The only way Alabama makes it in is if they beat Georgia and two of the undefeated teams ahead of Bama drop a game.
