Thorne’s issue seems to be mental. It’s probably best for him to take the stress off for a week. If Hank Brown struggles just take him off the bench like a relief pitcher.

Think about the team for a moment. They have Thorne's back and Freeze just put Thorne in the deep freeze. (pun intended) Thorne could have gotten healthy against the Lobos too and that would have done him a lot more good than coming off the bench in case of a crisis. It also now puts the weight of the world on a young dude who still has to win the locker room after the game.

Way too soon for Freeze to be panicking with these QBs like this.

he sucks. 3 star that cant beat out Thorne.

I think this might be a Saban type move with South Florida to shut up the fans. Tell them this is the best we got so shut your mouth.

OL’s not as bad as advertised.
It got pushed around by Cal.

Cal.

I don't think there is anyone in their DL or LB is on anyone's draft board.

In designed runs, the AU OL rarely made it up to the 2nd level to put a helmet on somebody. The H-Back/TE would occasionally do it.

Maybe someone has access to some PFF AU OL grades from that game but just watching parts of the game live and this clip, it isn't good.

You would think facing a horrid defense would be a nice spot for Thorne to get some of his confidence back and shake off the Cal game, seems a bit premature to make the switch this early.

Do you keep Thorne in for this reason or do you give the new guy some reps in a game and get him ready to finish out the season?

Sounds like Freeze gave up on Thorne which probably makes sense.

When your issue is mental, it's best to have easy success to build confidence. Seems to me, benching him in the 2nd half against Cal to help him get his head right and then setting him up for success in this one is the play.

I think it's quite possible Hugh just doesn't know how to make the offense work with this QB room. Alternatively, he somewhat forced the issue for Thorne against Cal, maybe for the best (TBD). We probably could have beaten Cal with a more conservative game plan, sadly. But it would have likely postponed any sort of movement on the QB front until at least Arkansas, if so.

Auburn has had this hope springs eternal thing with backup QBs for a while it seems, and it never works out particularly well. But I agree, I definitely if Hugh thought he could quickly get PT back on track, the move would be to call a conservative game against NM with PT at the helm and let him execute well against a really bad D.

We don't know but we do know that his numbers are significantly better than Thorne's albeit with limited work.

The way somebody performs at practice vs live games can be very different. We won’t really know until we see what he does getting chased down.
The only thing we do know is Thorne was not getting it done in the games so making a change is the only option

We agree but Thorne is so bad, it should have jumped out to the coaches.

New Mexico has worst statical defense in FBS so its palpable to start Brown. AU SHOULD be able to run through that defense with basic run plays and blocking schemes.
