Saban’s success will never be duplicated and replacing a legend like him is no small task.

it's gonna suck for whoever takes over. once it's announced the roster will dwindle and it's late in the portal process. he loses 2-3 games next year and the pitch forks will be out

Nobody wants to be the guy that follows a legend. He will be compared to Saban throughout his tenure of coaching at Bama.

And unlike Ray Perkins there aren't any pre-Saban national championships to claim in order to minimize the shadow.

There is enough talent on the roster (if they stay) to keep Bama competitive for a year or two - somewhat like what Bowden inherited from Dye in 93/94. With the expanded playoff system, they could have a shot at making the field. I think the risk of pitchforks coming out is if the new coach really falls off in recruiting and/or mismanages the talent there.

Honest answer? With each "thanks but no thanks" Bama gets the further down the list they have to go..maybe even beyond the shortlist. Even Gump fans know once you reach the bottom of the barrel expectations are lowered. If they had gotten Sark, Lanning, Kirby, Dabo etc...then the pressure would be on.

Swim to the bottom of the marianas trench, that’ll be a decent comparison.

You sound a bit wishful to me.

As the son of a college and high school football coach, who was friends with Nick, I have discussed this with my father many times. He used to always say “nobody is going to want to follow Nick” they will have to get some young guy willing to risk it that probably doesn’t really understand what he is getting into.

Then when they run him out of town after going 8-4 or something, it becomes an attraction job again.

I'd say that's pretty accurate, but I'd say 10-2 or something. You're following the GOAT. It ain't gonna be easy to pleasy.

The job will become attractive again after the sucker who takes over gets fired.

“nobody is going to want to follow Nick” Before the portal and NIL, I would have agreed completely. Times have changed.

If you have evidence of this, why didn't you present it before NIL? If you don't evidence, you just full of dung.

I'm gonna say it again and again because it does bear repeating.

Far as my part and anyone I know, our bar is lowered significantly by default. We know he was the GOAT. We logically know our ride won't be like it has been for 17 years.

For now, I'd settle for consistency and always being a contender.

That’s probably the most realistic response.
